AudioSwitcher

A Windows systray utility for quickly changing the default audio device.

Disclaimer: Windows actually doesn't expose an API to change the default audio device, so this utility is based on completely undocumented functionality. As such, you're on your own. Confirmed to work on Windows 7, 8, and 10.

The utility is a wrapper around AudioEndPointController, which in turn is based on Dave Amenta's excellent work. Also inspired (and very much helped out) from this blog post.

How To Use

  1. Right-click on tray icon to setup.
  2. Choose output audio devices which you wanted to switch between.
  3. When you want to change output audio device just make mouse left-click on icon in tray.

Advanced sound option capability?

Hey Marcjoha,
I really love this little project. It is just one of the things Microsoft should've thought about themselves.

However my sound setup is bit more complicated and I would love to know if you think there is a way automate my sound switch aswell:
A few programs really don't like the regular switching between audio devices (some crash, some just don't bother and use the other one). That's why I use my soundcard always as my default sound device and then just change the 'Listen to this device' capability of Windows to switch between headphones and my TV. (The attached screenshot may show it a little bit better, sorry for the German)

So I'm currently thinking of a way to automate the tedious sound switching process. Do you think that there is a possibility to change such 'advanced' features?
