HF Patch for Koikatu! and Koikatsu Party!

An unofficial patch for Koikatu and Koikatsu Party with fan-made English translations and essential mods. It will allow you to load all character cards and scenes and give you countless content creation and gameplay improvements while still keeping the original, uncluttered feel of the game. All content is tested and fixed (or removed) as needed before each update, providing a stable platform for further modding. HF Patch can also repair many common issues, try it if you have issues.

Read the full HF Patch manual to learn more about what it is, what it does, how to use it, and how to solve common issues.

Koikatsu can be split into two parts: character and scene creation tools (character maker and Studio), and an adventure game with story mode (it can use your custom characters, but not scenes). You can see preview videos of the game and some of the mods here.

HF Patch does not contain the full game, paid expansions or any other pirated content. You have to buy the game and expansions separately. You can buy the English version of the game and DLC on Steam, or the Japanese versions on DMM.

The base game (Koikatu / Koikatsu Party), and by extension this patch are not suitable for minors. If you are under 18 years old you can not use this patch. The base game and this patch contain only characters of age 18 or higher. The creator of this patch is not responsible for creations of its users and prohibits any unlawful use of this software.

  • Koikatu Darkness DLC is supported since HF Patch version v2.6
  • Koikatsu Party (Steam release) is supported since HF Patch version v2.7.1

You can support development of HF Patch and many of the included plugins through my Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/ManlyMarco

What's included?

HF Patch includes and installs by default:

  • All free updates (no need to install any updates manually)
  • Fan-made translations and automatic machine translations to fill in gaps
  • Most commonly used plugins and mods, which allows you to load most character cards and scenes available online (Sideloader modpack is not included in the light version of the patches)
  • Fixes for common issues with the game and mods like botched mod installs
  • Full uncensor with multiple different models You can see a full list of what HF Patch contains here and/or by checking contents the .iss files. Note that HF Patch does not contain the full game, paid expansions or any other pirated content. The full game needs to be already installed for the patch to work. If you want to use the VR module, also install it before patching!

Download

Check the Releases page for download links. The magnet links need to be downloaded with a torrent client like qBittorrent. To get mail updates for each new release you can watch this repositiory (top right) or watch the linked patreon page.

How to install the patch?

Here's a video guide that might be useful. The guide is mostly universal between different games, but there might be some differences.

Text guide

  1. Install Koikatu or Koikatsu Party to a directory with no Japanese characters in its path (e.g. D:\Games\KK, if you're installing KKP on Steam you shouldn't have to worry about this)
  2. (Optional) Install any DLCs* you have. You don't have to install all of them, you can pick only some DLCs or don't install any DLCs at all.
    • If you have Koikatsu Party, install AfterParty* (Contains all of the below while being cheaper and translated)
    • Install Personality Pack* (Koikatu only, not really worth it)
    • Install Afterschool* (Koikatu only, very worth it)
    • Install any preorder DLC you have* (Koikatu only, yoyaku and darkness don't work in Party)
    • Install the VR DLC (Get it from official website for the Japanese release, and from Steam library for Koikatsu Party)
  3. Download the latest HF Patch release from Releases. You should get a single .exe file along with a few .bin files. You can place these files anywhere you want (except the folder where the game is located), but they HAVE to be in the same folder together. DO NOT download any .zip files from GitHub - they contain source code for the patch, not the patch itself.
  4. Install the latest HF Patch by running the .exe and following the wizard. The default settings should work well for most users.
    • During the installation the patch may appear stuck, unless you get an error wait for it to finish.
    • If you use the light version of the patch its a good idea to update your Sideloader Modpack separately, you can do this by selecting update in the launcher or using the look for mods option in KKManager.
  5. Done! You can now start the game launcher as usual and you will notice some new options straight away. You can remove the downloaded patcher files now if you want to save some space. Special patch is included in HF Patch, you don't have to install it manually. It won't hurt anything if you have it installed already, the patch will figure itself out. Just to be safe you can verify game files in Steam before installing the HF Patch if you messed with your installation folder before doing this.
    • Keep in mind that the first launch of the game after patching could take a couple minutes on slower systems and the game window might not appear immediately.
  6. (Optional) You can update the modpacks by clicking the update button within the launcher. You can leave out Sideloader Modpack - Studio if you don't plan on using studio.

Note: If you want to run the game under Wine/Proton (Linux, SteamOS, macOS, etc.), read this and this.

How to install DLCs

All things marked with * are paid DLC content and are all fully optional. The AfterParty DLC contains translated versions of all Japanse DLC (except Yoyaku and Darkness) at a lower price. This is the recommended option over buying the Japanse DLC if you have KK Party.

You can follow this guide to buy and install the two major Japanse expansion DLCs.

Here's a simple way to install any downloaded DLCs (JP versions):

  1. Extract the DLC/expansion with 7zip (or similar) until you find a "setup" folder that contains an "abdata" folder and some other files.
  2. You need to copy all of these folders and files into your game's install directory (you should see our own abdata folder and other files similar to what's in the DLC). Replace files when asked.
  3. Install HF Patch, even if you already have it installed. If you have Koikatsu Party then do not install the Darkness and EmotionCreators preorder bonuses - they don't work properly. You will get some of the clothes, but it's just not worth it (and both of these DLC can't be legally purchased anyways, so the point is moot). DLCs for Koikatsu Sunshine and EmotionCreators will not work with Koikatsu, trying to install them is likely to break your game (you might need to fully reinstall the game to fix it afterwards).

Solutions to common issues with the patch

  • If after installing the patch you have issues running the game, restart your PC and try to install the patch again with default settings.
  • If after installing the patch Studio hangs when loading, start KKManager (it's in a folder in game directory) and click "Look for updates" at the top, then tell it to update the Studio modpack. Or press the update button in the launcher.
  • If you have trouble downloading by using the magnet link, try updating your torrent client or use the latest qBittorrent (it's known to work well).
  • Make sure you downloaded ALL parts to the same folder and that the parts all have the same name. You need ALL parts for the patch to work. If the installer asks you for another disc it means that your download was not extracted correctly and is missing files, or you renamed or removed some of the extracted files.
  • If you see any messages about corrupted files you'll have to re-download the offending part (or all of the parts). If you downloaded the torrent, most torrent clients can "force recheck" the downloaded files so you don't have to re-download the whole thing.
  • If your antivirus is flagging the .exe file make sure that you've downloaded the patch by following links in this post. If you are sure the download came from the right place, it's most likely a false positive (it's a common issue with non-signed application installers).
  • On slower drives it can take a few minutes to finish verifying the files since it has to read and hash a lot of data. If you can see it's doing something in task manager then just let it run.

Discussion and help

There is an extensive FAQ on the wiki and in the Koikatsu! discord server. There are also some guides available on the server.

If you need further help, feel free to ask in the #help channel on the server. Try to search for your issue first by using the Discord's search box at top right, it might have been already answered before. Please don't ask for help under this guide because I rarely check the comments here.

General FAQ / Notes

  • Koikatu and Koikatsu Party (KK/KKP) are 2 versions of the same game and both work with the KK HF Patch. Koikatsu Sunshine (KKS) is a completely separate sequel that works with the KKS HF Patch (this distinction is important!).
  • You can configure many plugins by Pressing F1 and then "Plugin settings". You can also see most of the plugin hotkeys in this menu (and change them).
  • You only need to install the latest version of the patch. If you installed a previous version you don't have to do anything, just install the latest version as normal.
  • Installing HF Patch will add free updates, which contain Studio (separate exe file). For many people this is the only mode they use (apart from character maker to make characters for use in studio), so it is highly recommended that you check it out. All of Koikatu and Koikatsu Sunshine HF Patch preview images were made in studio. You can see other people's creations and download their studio scenes from the Discord server and various card sharing boorus.
  • HF Patch does not contain the full game, paid expansions or any other pirated content. The full game needs to be already installed for the patch to work. If you want to use the VR module, also install it before patching! All paid DLC are optional and not required, you can skip them and the patch will still work fine (some features might be disabled/unavailable).
  • You can install HF Patch over almost any game install and have it work perfectly, and you can run it again to enable/disable some plugins. This patch will automatically fix many broken game/mod installs and common issues. Just make sure to let it remove all old mods when asked.
  • You can see other people's creations and download their studio scenes from the Discord server, bepisdb and the booru. You might need to run Update from game launcher to load some cards and scenes if they use mods not included in the patch.
  • It's recommended to install all content mods if you plan to download character cards (Studio modpack is optional in case you won't use studio) - they are required by many cards and scenes. If you find a card that is showing mod missing warnings try updating Sideloader Modpacks. This can be done by simply pressing the update button in the launcher or by launching KKManager and using the look for mods option.
  • The mods included in the patch don't modify any game files and can be easily disabled by removing the "winhttp.dll" file from your game directory. Official patches are applied permanently.
  • Please leave the modders some positive feedback or help them in some other way!
  • There is no warranty on this patch or on any of the included mods. You are installing this patch at your own risk. That being said, we try our best to help in case of issues. If you find any bugs, do let us know so they can be fixed.

FAQ / Notes for the Steam release (Koikatsu Party)

  • Consider pausing your Koikatsu updates on Steam. New updates might install automatically and break mods (which can break the game in return) with no user input. If this happens you can fix the mods by installing the patch again.
  • You can prevent Steam from showing you play the game by starting the .exe manually (not from the Steam library). Make your games private to be extra sure. The game can also run with Steam turned off. Just know that we won't judge you for your hours played :)
  • If you verify game files in your Steam client, you will lose many features and have to re-run HF Patch to get them back. You can do this if you have issues as it will restore game files but not remove any of your data.
  • Included fan translations are only used to fill in the gaps in official translation (DLC, studio, mods). The official English/Chinese translations are not modified.
  • It is possible to install Japanese versions of Summer Personality Expansion and After School Expansion packs to the Steam release (note that they only have mostly low quality machine translations, but the features work fine). They are both entirely optional and HF Patch will inform you if they are missing. Check the discord server for more info.
  • Installing HF Patch will add free updates for Koikatu, which contain Studio and optionally the VR module (both are separate exe files).

How to build the source

At least Visual Studio 2017 is needed for the helper library and latest unicode Inno Setup compiler is needed for the patch itself. All necessary mods have to be placed inside correct subfolders of the Input directory to compile. Because of massive size, they are not included here.

kk-hf_patch's Issues

HF Patch 3.8 is missing some translation files

After installing HF Patch 3.8, in story mode, the official translations for vanilla personalities are overwritten by machine translations of lower quality. How to fix? I used the "recommended" preset in the installer, and had HF Patch 3.7 before updating.

The magnet link for 3.7 no longer seems to work by the way, it gets stuck in "downloading metadata."

[suggestion] add a list of the mods added

I'm getting more and more complaints of missing mods in my cards and i'm kinda surprised since i rarely put non-hf-patch mods in my install (when I do, it's usually for the studio only on top of that) So i'm wondering what's going on. And I haven't found a way to quickly check if the missing mod they talk about is in the patch or not.

So what would be good is to put a list of the zipmods available in the patch. No need for something fancy, just a list, eventually with the files path and maybe their version number, in txt. I think something like this can be generated with a simple batch script.

White List JS Torrent

This was provided by the client; I hope this can be done!
JSTorrent reports itself to the tracker a "User-Agent" string the same as the underlying browser (e.g. "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/84.0.4147.105 Safari/537.36"). (current limitations disallow changing this)
It adds an "X-User-Agent" string of the form: (JSTorrent/{version}) (current x-user-agent string version: "JSTorrent/2430"
Its peer id begins with "-JS{version}-", currently peer id begins with "-JS2430-"

odd glitch with clothes in story mode

Sometimes, for reasons that seems to be random, some clothing parts of the girls gets removed. Talking to them might cause that, or just keeps them naked and all. It seems their clothes gets fixed when they change of map. That is, until it glitches again. It only affects the clothings and not the accessories.

After some tries, it looks like disabling "Persist cloth state in school" fixes the problem.

[feature request] Backup mods. Do not delete.

I'm tired of using this and it deletes all the mods.
This tool fails to check versions or backup.

I may use this tool to change one item and I can un-check everything and it still nukes everything.

Questions and possible issues regarding the HF patch v3.12

First time posting here so I hope I'm doing it right.

In charamaker, turning off the 'sub' acc category on the right side of the window turns itself back on when I select another acc slot. I am talking about the general option.

During H, turned off a bag accessory. It turns itself back on when I change the clothes state to any of them. The card used was a vanilla, not edited in any way.

In charastudio, the scene load list resets my page. If I deleted a scene on page 5 I'm sent back to page 1. Also on studio run next time I get a different page as a starting point.

Translation issue, all personalities get bad translations for the choice answers. Happens randomly but more often than not.
Logo and the main menu theme image translation are not included in the patch.

RealPOV plugin, I suggest to set the default values to FOV:40-45 range, offsetz to 0.06 and showing the head for the best pov experience. Issue the plugin has is whenever I turn it on and off and also change the map location or just the H position, the neck's shadow gets crushed.

Animation loader or just broken kplug animations, many of the seated positions lose the chair during it, so the character hangs in the air. Also the penis on 'cum outside' choice, bends on some positions. Character heights didn't go much from the default 30f/60m values so it can't be that.
Position names have 2x standing doggystyle and 2x reverse cowgirl but are different.

BP plugin and mods version v4.2 in the patch, as well as the new v4.3 don't work right. Reverting back to v4.1 solved the issues it caused in most cases. It messes with poses done in newer and older scenes, there were mentions of this on 4chan for many users. Happened to me too.
I'd also recommend excluding the BP uncensors as part of the UncensorSelector modpack because plugin to mod version difference when comparing the KK Manager version and the actual release can cause issues, as I believe the creator himself said so on his github page.

Do you know which setting or plugin changes the panties clothes states to both legs, instead of the hanging on one leg, one? How do I remove this?

Thank you for your work.

Unable to use clothing data normally in the character editor and Studio.

I keep seeing this for a few patches now:
When I want to load some accessories individually (show selection), the game slows down in the process, and then gives an error. Consequently, I can't put the clothes I want on a character without transferring an inappropriate hair or other accessory to them (or I have to choose not to load accessories at all)

This is very annoying because it prevents you from editing the character comfortably. Why does this happen at all, and is there any way to fix it? (Like bringing back an old version of some plugin without rolling back to the old patch?)

DarkTheme makes the game unplayable

I know it's optional, but it sounded nice in theory so I enabled it. Now none of the student cards are readable unless I completely mess up my monitor's brightness/gamma settings (very dark grey font on black background).
Worst yet, it's not really a mod in the sense of all other mods you include, managed by KKManager, so it can not even be disabled once installed.
It should really not be included with a patch so many people trust as the golden standard, or at least have a warning text that says it makes the game look bad and ugly and unplayable.

Confusing uncensor mods

I found how to change the uncensor mods in the settings menu and all... But there's a shit load of it, and everytime i try one, I must reload the H scene to see the changes... Not a huge deal, though.

But, the names of the mods are very confusing. Like, the only one i found with a regular cock so far was SOS.trap, all the others giving pussies to males. It took me around a half hour to kinda get back the settings i had in the previous update of your patch. :/

So, if you can occasionally add with the names some clues like "peen", "puss" and "futa", whatever, to stop confusion.. Is that possible?

Thanks and keep up the good work. :)

Possibility to uninstall specific mods?

Hi there,

I applied the HF patch and got the custom intro voices thing in, which I really want to get rid of again. Is there any possibility to just remove specific mods, as I also applied other mods that I don't want to remove with a re-installation of this package?

Thanks for any input :).

Stuck in “Now Loading...” in vr

Hello so the hf patch seems to work fine in normal Koikatsu. But when I use the VR side of it it will allow me to pick both meme era of the scene but then when I continue, it will only show a white screen in the head set, if you move you’re head out of the white bubble you can see the scene is set up and the girl is standing there and everything it just won’t load. On the pc monitor not the headset it will just have the little “Now loading...” in the bottom left hand corner continuously. Any Ideas what I messed up?

Installing patch breaks some After Party DLC translations

I've been using the patch without issue for a while now, but recently I decided I'd buy the After Party DLC on steam. On an install without the patch, all the translations work as expected (e.g. the English version of the logo is displayed on the title screen and the new option in the Have Sex menu reads "Threesome"), however as soon as I install the patch all of these translations are removed. All text that is a part of the base game still appears in English, but anything new to the AP DLC appears in Japanese. I've tried patching both my old install and a clean install of the game, as well as disabling and enabling almost every option in the installer menu to no avail. Any ideas?

can't download

I would like to dwonload thi patch but when i use torrent link that give me the folder with the code, i'd really have this patch but I can't paid the patreon for now

Constantly getting corrupted files from the torrent.

Been trying to install the HF patch for the past couple of days now, and I have ran into the same problem repeatedly where I will get to the installation part but suddenly one of the files is corrupted, I have tried scanning my hardrive, using two different torrents (Qbittorrent and Utorrent), verifying my game on steam and redownloading the patch, and force rechecking the torrent and yet I still can't sort, any advice?

POV in story mode

just updated it from 3.4 to 3.7. POV in story mode gets bugged it goes to the female then mc then wont go back to first person mode anymore, the female or mc will start to look at the left or right when pressing the shortcut. the POV works fine in free H

ModBoneImplantor missing in installation

ModBoneImplantor is not listed as a component during installation.

Not sure if it's supposed to be installed by default, but after a custom installation it's not present in the BepInEx directory.

source file corrupted

I tried to downloaded the HF Patch about 4 times now via torrent link...
But when I want to install the patch (I do all that is described in the description for steam), at one point I get the following error:
image

Each time I downloaded on different files... I can't use the mirror download because of the download size limit... So is there a way to solve this problem?

POV

Greetings!
Is there any way to change the POV? I patched the game from 3.3 to 3.4 and now the POV is on the female, is there a way to change it back to your male character?

edit:nvm i manage to found it

Steam Deck support

The game is running fine with Proton but no mods are loaded, even the translation.
Can you please make it compatible with the Steam Deck?

I'm up for testing if needed.

accessory states GUI BUG

accessory states GUI Always have problems accessing files
I keep repeating the accessory states program
always always always go back to the original state
With luck, there will be no problem
The previous version did not have this problem
it drives me crazy😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

ACC undo no work

ACCundo 0.9.0 can't work in HF3.16 until I disable MoreAccessories 2.0.21.
Because old MoreAccessories versions do not support.

Getting stuck at the loading screen

when I try to start a game at the story mode after editing classes I'm getting stuck at the loading screen

Some images translations gone, patcher deleting mods when not supposed to

So after installing the HF Patch v2.10 as per usual (I'm running Koikatu, I didn't select/deselect anything special in the installer), some images that used to be translated, like the hotkeys help window that appears after pressing F2), now turned Japanese.

I tried applying the patch again, selecting only the translations to be installed as well as choosing not to remove any mods. Despite that, the patcher deleted all sideloader mods that were placed in folders inside of the mods folder (so all clothing, hair etc.). I don't think that was supposed to happen...

I've also noticed that the patcher restarts explorer.exe upon starting installation, which is pretty annoying.

Some Clothing Tops Don't Render

I'm not exactly sure where to post an issue like this, but this felt like a good spot. If anyone has an idea it's probably you, Marco.

Anyways, when walking around the school, and this happens 100% of the time, certain character's shirts ("Top") just simply aren't there when they should be. But when I interact with them (aka entering a conversation), it's there until I leave the convo and the school is loaded again. They also render fine in H scenes. I don't think this has anything to do with persist clothes after some tests, also since it only appear to be certain shirts on certain cards. I've tried to gather as much info and samples as I could about this, mostly images.

The witch hat girl's Top is: [ZX] Megumin Top

Actual Card

The blonde (Android 18)'s Top is: Dress Shirt(sth2) Though in this case the shirt renders but her shoulders are invisible, I suspect it could be related

And here's an image of just these three as students in their own save file in the classroom idling about:

Do you know what's causing this or have any ideas how to fix it for their cards? This would really help for other cards like these that I encounter in the future with similar issues!

Updated from HF Patch 1.2 to 1.8 (Stuck at Loading Screen when initiating H-Scene)

It's been actually a long time since i used the HF Patch, and i somehow downloaded v1.2 back in June..
For months, i lost internet connection.. So this time, i managed to get my hands on HF Patch v1.8 which i just found out this morning.. however there was a problem after i installed it.. Everything seems to work
except when everytime i initiate H with a girl, or whenever i try Free-H at the main menu, it's always stuck
halfway with the loading bar.. Am i the only one experiencing this?

Installing the HF Patch over a REPACK..

It isn't really much of an issue, but more of just a consultation..
I actually installed this into my my own old copy of Koikatsu, which has the "AFTERSCHOOL" DLC.. But only the AFTERSCHOOL DLC. So far, everything is going well, no issues to report.

However, I found a REPACK from a user in nyaa uploaded by a user named "ScrewThisNoise" which includes ALL DLCs currently available for the Japanese Version.. I really just prefer the HF Patch over any repacks, but still..
A Complete collection is.. something..?

My Question is.. Do I just install the latest version of HF Patch on this or are there other extra steps needed to be done?
And also what is this "vanilifier script"? ScrewThisNoise said in one of his older uploads about A YEAR AGO that this must be done before installing the HF Patch..

If I could just transfer the DLCs themselves from folder to another, I'd do it, but.. What do you think, kind sir?

HF 3.16/HF 3.17 Stiletto doesn't work!

Hi, Master ManlyMarco!

HF Patch 3.16/3.17 Stiletto doesn't work!

deleting folders again

For the longest time I put addons in and they would stay.

then the updated version of the patcher wiped them out

#11

so I moved everything to a "TEMP" folder inside Koikatsu folder

which has worked great up to at least 3.3?

now it deletes the "TEMP" folder in 3.7

This behavior is really annoying and forces me to use multiple folders for this game. [It also didn't care that I ran the updater from inside this folder to update.] I will no longer be using this software as its just creates more issues, and forces the creation of more clutter.

Please set a designated folder for storage/backup or stop deleting everything for no reason.

Patch always installs base characters

I updated from 2.4 to 2.5, made sure to not check the "install default characters" checkbox, but the patcher installed them all anyway, overwriting the changes I did to some of them.

Game crashes on exit and no "Illusion" intro voice

So I've been having these issues since HF Patch 3.4 iirc. When I try to exit the game (both Koikatsu and Studio), it crashes instead. Also, when launching Koikatsu, I don't get the "Illusion" voice line on startup. I only get the "Koikatsu" line for whatever reason (I'm pretty sure I didn't check the Custom Intro Voices mod when installing the patch). The crash files:

Magnet Link Not Working.

I'm still pretty new to using torrent and magnets, but the link is just plain text for me, so when I try and click on it, nothing happens. And when I copy/paste it into UTorrent it does nothing.
I don't know if I'm being an idiot or if my computer is just refusing to allow it, but any help will be appreciated.

warning file in install can glitch windows

By warning file, i mean the file you've added in MEGA about instructions for users. The single file named ALL.exe AND.bin FILES ARE NECESSARY. USE THE.torrent FILE TO DOWNLOAD IF YOU HIT THE MEGA LIMIT.

This very file can glitch all windows by its simple presence, for instance when you download the whole patch folder using the mega program. This file then can be impossible to delete, probably because of the use of . everywhere, confusing windows. Because of that, when attempting to remove the file, windows gives an error and refuses totally to delete it. I could manage to get rid of it by using git bash and use the rm command, though.

So I suggest you rename this file so it doesn't use any ., maybe it will fix the problem? (because i don't know what else can cause an error like this. I already seen windows complaining aboug making files starting with a . like a .gitignore or stuff)
