My understanding is that you could, but it's not going to be efficient as the supported compression methods (namely deflate) are block-based and a block uses data from the previous blocks for its decompression. So each time you'd seek, the upstream reader would have to seek back to its start & then decompress everything up until the new cursor/offset. It is actually something I've wanted for a long while since nested ZIPs have to use the streaming reader at all times.

The only situation where we could implement AsyncSeek easily is where you aren't using compression at all (ie. Stored).

Though, do take this with a grain of salt as I've just handed off the decompression work for this crate to async-compression. You might get a more informed answer over there.

Thanks. I was suspecting something like this could be the case. I was mainly curious and don't have a strong use case for this. I'll close this for now and reopen if I find something that points to this being possible efficiently afterall.
