Yes, it can be installed via pip: pip install django-contact-form-gv. It is indeed compatible with django 1.6, and no, I don't have a definitive list of all the changes between James's original and this one.
The major changes are that it now makes use of Generic Views instead of the functional views which makes things far easier to extend. There's not a lot to either one, so I'd suggest poking around the code to see where it suites you, or what you'd like to change.
