That would be handy if we had a easy mechanism (apart from the before hook) to dynamically set the data-url. The endpoint might be dependent to some sort of form values for example. Here's an example:

<a href="#" 
    data-url="api/1.0/postcode/{{#edit-postcode}}/format/json" 
    data-urlvar-cb="val"
    data-namespace="getPostcode">...</a>

P.S. Thank you for the great contribution. Some day the community will find it and sighs in wonder why so late?

Update: Now, I see that it's not possible to alter the endpoint using the before hook as the params.request is not available. I had to use $.ajaxPrefilter() to alter the endpoint. A corresponding hook would be nice IMO.

Update: Same placeholders would be great in data-payload as well.

I see that the data-ajax is just part of the selector but that would be handy if it accepts the endpoint url so no more data-url.
