vertical-tabs-chrome-extension's Issues

Display density options

Create a setting that allows for the size of the tabs to be larger or smaller. Much like GMail's display density.

The existing style is a bit bulky so it would be nice to have a more compact mode with less vertical padding.

Vertical Tabs in Edge browser

Hi, am new with using the Edge Browser [latest version]. Normally used Mozilla FF, v. 75.0 and am finally switching away from Firefox. Every time they update, something else is thrown off, taking hours of my time to fix.
I never thought I'd say that but that newest Edge browser grows on me by now. The only thing I need now are the perfect vertical tabs. Your extension fits my wish 100%.
But for the life of me, I cannot figure how I get it in a sidebar? I have the icon on the top tool bar, can toggle it - but it never shows in a sidebar.
I did install various different 'sidebars' - but none opens your tabs in it. Just their own stuff. So, I uninstalled them.
Is there a trick to open your tabs vertically in a sidebar or does it require a specific sidebar?

I truly appreciate your help. I work on a PC and the ctrl+E does not work, is just opens a webpage: Bing Search.

Regards,
Michele Krammer

Port to safari

Hi, I plan to port this extension to support safari, and publish to App Store. Is that OK?

Context Menu Command - Copy Tab URL

I would like to suggest a tiny enhancement- a new context menu command:

  • Copy Tab URL

There are lots of copy URL extensions, some of them are very powerful (supporting copying of multiple tabs, HTML, MD, BBCode, LaTeX, etc) and I use several. Yet I think that adding such new context menu command to Vertical Tabs is natural. It would be especially useful to users who don't use dedicated copy URL extensions.

The context menu command may be named Copy Tab URL or just Copy URL, you decide.

Keep same configuration across all tabs

Currently if you resize the side bar in one tab, it does not apply the same resize to all tabs. There should be setting where if the user changes the size in one tab, all the other tabs use the same side bar width

Slow response time / Long latency when closing tabs

Right now if I use the extension to close some other tab (not the currently open tab), even then I see a 1-2 second of delay when the tab gets closed and then the UI gets refreshed, and I can interact with the sidebar again.

The problem is that I use vertical tabs primarily when I've far too many tabs open, and want to close many pages in quick succession. But because the UI is so slow while closing, it becomes frustrating as I've to close one tab, wait a few seconds, then close the next tab and so on.
It'll be good if the UI is made more interactive, by refreshing the UI is refreshed immediately, while the actual tab closure happens in background (maybe in a separate thread).

Unexpected tab close

If you got 2 windows and completely close all tabs in this window, the other window's current tab will be closed.

Show tabs for all windows

it only shows tabs on the current windows...it does not show all tabs that are opened in all other windows... if you have opened 5 windows with 20 to 25 each... it only shows the active window and the opened tabs associated on that active windows... all other tabs in other windows is ignored

Idea : vertical tabs with only bigger favicons

I'm a Slack, Skype, Hangout, Whatsapp, Rocket.chat, Messages and other IM desktop user. I used to use native app for each, several months ago I decided to switch to a one app for all solution : Ferdi (after trying many others) but I'm still not totally pleased (mainly because of electron).

Then I decided to find a native chrome (of firefox) solution with extensions and find this one, but I was not able to customize it to my needs, and I think it can be done with some new customization options.

This is what I would like in my browser (close to slack/rocket or ferdi default UI):

imstyle

  • No top bar / fav bar / tab bar
  • Vertical tab with only favicons and notifications

Do you think it's doable ?

Thank you for your work.

Extension crashes on edge

If a lot of tabs are open in edge (chromium) the extension tends to crash often.
What info should I look for to provide more information about this issue?

Create tab groups

It would be nice if we could group tabs. The group names could be displayed vertically on the side, or in a tree style

Optional:

  • Display group tab count
  • Drag and drop tabs between groups

iframe-background.gif (question)

Hello,

When I use Image Downloader Continued (Chrome Web Store, GitHub), an extension which extracts all image files found in a web page, it also gets a GIF file:

iframe-background.gif

which turned out to be a part of Vertical Tabs extension, screen:

Image Downloader Continued 2 8 - 2020-01-20 - 003

This file appears every time I extract images using Image Downloader Continued and I find this a bit annoying. Can you confirm this? Is there any workaround? Is this file (iframe-background.gif) needed for Vertical Tabs to function properly?

Does not work with WhatsApp for the Web

With the extension turned on while using https://web.whatsapp.com, the vertical tabs obscure the left side of the app (where the names of chats are) unless the window is made VERY large.

Here is what the window looks like at 1315 horizontal pixels (left side of app is still obscured)

Support plugin auto hide

It will be great if the tool could have the option to auto-hide when not active and appears when mouse hovers on the edge of the browser.

Unexpected Behaviour

When I opened this page Vertical Tabs version 1.6.0 opened by itself and the pop-up window cannot be closed without closing the tab. Screen:

Vertical Tabs 1 6 0 - 2020-01-15 - 003

This is very strange- I have been using Vertical Tabs for several days and as far as can remember this problem did not happen on other pages. I am using Vertical Tabs with Cent Browser version 4.1.7.182 on WIndows 8 x64.

Can you confirm this problem?

Make width of side panel even smaller

Great plug-in, this is the closest alternative I have found to Tree Style Tabs in Firefox. I would recommend that you allow users to decrease the width of the side bar even further. The purpose is to save space. As long as the users sees the tab icon plus a few extra letters, it is sufficient to understand what that tab represents. The current minimum width is still taking too much space for me.

By the way, if that means removing the search bar, that is fine. Anyway, the search bar should be a configurable setting, and allow the user to hide it.

Having several issues with Edge--please don't abandon this extension!

Hi,

This is a nice quality extension but needs a few fixes.

  1. When it pops out from the side it doesn't always cover the entire website. An example is a chat screen in the bottom right on Telstra.com.au

  2. Websites scroll when the extension is open. This makes it extremely hard to scroll the extension.

  3. It would be great to be able to resize the width to see longer tab titles.

Thanks!

Sullie

Pop-Up

I would appreciate if there is an option to open Vertical Tabs in pop-up in stead of in sidebar. The advantage of using pop-up in stead of sidebar would be that the user would be able to open the extension virtually everywhere- on Chrome Web Store tabs and special tabs like new tab, bookmarks tab, settings tab, etc.

Focus Stealing

Right now, the extensions "search tab here" steals focus from the website. For example, without this extension, if I open http://www.google.com , the default focus(cursor) is on the Google's search-box and I can just type and press enter. But after installing this extension, the side-bar appears a little late and steals the focus away from the page, so I've to first click on Google's textbox and then type in it.
Can this be fixed such that focus stays wherever it is on the webpage ?
