axmlparser's Introduction

AXMLParser

Every APK has a manifest file, which is usually in binary format. This project decodes this manifest into human-readable XML.

Usage

./AXMLParser [AXML|APK]

The argument can be either the manifest directly (in binary format) or an APK file, in which case the manifest will first be extracted from the APK.

To do

  • when extracting from an APK, also decode other resources (e.g., strings.xml) which would allow us to resolve some static references.
  • when printing decoded XML to stdout, pretty-print it instead of just dumping it on one line.

axmlparser's Issues

Add proper CLI

Right now there only is an ad-hoc CLI that is parsed by hand. This needs to be replaced by a proper CLI using Clap.

Manifest contents API

We need an API to allow other programs to extract info from the manifest. At the very least:

  • list of activities
  • list of services
  • list of content providers
  • list of broadcast receivers
  • list of requested permissions
  • list of created permissions

Seems like a good place to start.

Parse ARSC strings

Currently strings are not always parsed correctly for ARSC files. We are sometimes missing characters, or end up with invalid strings.
