Since you are working on a GAX project, I wanted to let you know I also did some research on a game using the GAX engine a few weeks ago. The game I reverse engineered was Rayman Raving Rabbids for GBA. As part of a map viewer for this game, I implemented some side functionality to extract the music. The game uses GAX Sound Engine 3.05 (Aug 13 2003).

I managed to convert the game's music to working XM files (the format is very similar to XM - apart from general format similarities it even shares the same effect codes for tempo and volume changes). I couldn't get the instrument pitch right though and moved on to other projects. Here are the classes I implemented:

I also shared my example XM conversion of this game's soundtrack (with the wrong pitch, but otherwise quite good) in the GAX thread at HCS Forum.
