kendo-global's Issues

itemsPerPage is not translated

Hello,
I`m using my own file, I have there
kendo.ui.Pager.prototype.options.messages =
$.extend(kendo.ui.Pager.prototype.options.messages, {
....
itemsPerPage: "položiek na stránku",
.....

but this only one item is not translated.
Can you give me a suggestion where should be a problem?
I`m using kendo 2013.2.716

Why use some files underscore while most use hyphen?

Hi,

I would assume that the file name format should be the same with all files. I know that both _ and - are allowed in locales and that every system (Java, Windows...) has another standard but at least inside of a system like "kendo-global" the locale format shouldn't change. For example in our application we use hyphen because the "kendo.culture..." files use it and we use it to dynamically load the culture and the lang (from this project) file. This fails of course for en_US, es_PA and ro_RO. Manually renaming works but the next "git pull" won't update the renamed files.
This is just a small change but i hope you consider it.

Thank you for your great work.

Outdent text in editor is not localizable

It seems a problem with Telerik's implementation of the outdent feature. It is not getting the text from the proper options. It is somewhat different from the Indent tool, as it creates a different "object" to deal with the outdent button. It seems this object is not honoring the translation. I'll contact Telerik's support, but since my subscription just expired a few days ago, I don't know how long, if ever, I'll get a response now that they have a forum for subscribers only...

Version for kendo.ui.core

Hi there. Telerik has published a simpler version of their Kendo Framework called kendo.ui.core: http://demos.telerik.com/kendo-ui/web/overview/index.html

Unfortunately there are still no widget localization messages included. I tried to include the JavaScript files of this kendo-global project and noticed that they don't work with kendo.ui.core.

The reason is simple. kendo.ui.core doesn't seem to include many of the widgets the "all" release does.

The following JavaScript error message is displayed:

TypeError: kendo.ui.ColumnMenu is undefined

One needs to remove the localization of following objects to get it to work:

  • ColumnMenu
  • Groupable
  • FilterMenu
  • ImageBrowser
  • Editor

Would it make sense to create a kendo.ui.core version of this project or extend the JavaScript files so that they check if the corresponding kendo widget exists, before trying to add the localized messages?

Remove Link button in editor is not localizable

The Remove Link button in editor is not localizable for Kendo UI version 2012.3.1114.

Screen shot displaying pt-BR, you can see it says "Remove Link" but in /lang/kendo.pt-BR.js it says unlink: "Remover link",

image

HOWEVER this is working in version 2013.1.514.

Obviously this is in the "Known issues" category rather then "Please fix, it's broken". Just a note to 2012.3.1114 users.

The Telerik team acknowledges that this is a bug in Kendo UI:

nuget package

Felipe, I suggest (of course, as soon as possible) to create a nuget package for this project.

Found a couple of options more: NumericTextBox, Upload

Hi, I actually don't know how to operate on this scenario so I leave it to moderators or loudenvier to add them where it belongs
Hope it helps

//Text of arrows in NumericTextBox or IntegerTextBox
kendo.ui.NumericTextBox.prototype.options =
$.extend(kendo.ui.NumericTextBox.prototype.options, {
upArrowText: "Incrementar valor",
downArrowText: "Decrementar valor"
});

//Text of buttons in Upload
kendo.ui.Upload.prototype.options.localization =
$.extend(kendo.ui.Upload.prototype.options.localization, {
select: "Cargar...",
remove: "Borrar",
removeAll: "Borrar todos"
});

Customize calendar

Hi, i am currently using kendo calendar control in my application i wanted to use multilanguage for numbers and date formats and all other options in en-US. What i see now if i use culture thr calendar is also using de-DE for example. Is there any way to over rode this by $extend ??

Say for ex: if culture is german the calendar month is Juni, i wanted to show is as June..is there a way?? Thanks a lot for your help.

I'm too slow to respond to issues... why?

Hi guys,

I'm having trouble with a production system and in this past month I hardly had the chance to reply to everyone here. I'll pull the pending merge requests and as soon as I have some time left I'll reply to all messages and will take a closer look at the on-the-fly translation mode.

Add versioning support.

Please add support for versions (and tags) to be able to map the messages to the correct KendoUI version (since it's a moving target).

regards.

Translation of editing popup

Are there planes to translate the messages for the editing popup too?
i.e. "Edit", "Delete" in the grid and in the popup the messages "Update" and "Cancel".
Anyway thank you for doing a great job

On the fly translations

Hi folks!

This iniatieve is great! I actually don't understand why people don't make their stuff internationalized. Probably in America no multi-language apps are developed...

I don't have an issue with kendo-global but I have a question that you guys hopefully can answer.

I'm using the i18next javascript library to do translations everywhere in my app. I'm also using Angular and created a special directive for the grid component. This means that I've create a custom HTML5 tag with custom attributes and some logic behind it.
That way I can use my tag and the grid already has some defaults and is already translated. So no need to pass it to every new instance over and over again.

Though I have a problem with how the kendo-grid behaves:
Everything is translated: column headers and grid internals (column menu, filtering properties, ...) but only once. So if I switch language in my app, a new resourcebundle is automatically loaded by i18next but the grid isn't re-rendered so translations of previous language are still displayed

So my question: is there a function I can call the re-renders the grid and thus also retrieves the overridden messages again? And if so will that also work for translated column headers (= 'title' property of a column in the 'columns' array you can pass to kendo-grid)?

I guess you guys already sorted this out because on the fly translations wiill be something that is (or needs to be) supported by your framework...

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,
Glenn

Proposal for improvements

@loudenvier I would like to take the idea of #19 a bit further. I would like to do the following:

  1. Convert all the language files to .json
  2. Add a Gulp build script which can build files which auto load a certain language.
  3. Add a bower.json file, and tag releases, so the repository can be installed via Bower.
  4. Assign one language file (probably en-US) as the leading file. People should use this file when creating a new language file. Whenever new labels have to be added, they will be added to this file first.
  5. Add tests to verify that a language file is complete, by checking if it has all the label keys which the leading file has.
  6. Add a script (which might be written as jQuery plugin, or not) which can dynamically load and switch languages, using the .json files.

1-3 are included in pull request #52.

Serving Demos directly from GitHub

I am experimenting with letting GitHub serve the Kendo demos (kendo-global/demo/*) directly from the repository. So that you can have clickable links in README.md, displayed when you browse to https://github.com/loudenvier/kendo-global.

Benefit: you don't have to download the repository first before you can try the demos.

This is possible by using GitHub Pages (gh-pages). I have a proof of concept in my fork at: https://github.com/DonKarlssonSan/kendo-global/tree/gh-pages, click the links in the Language column in the Credits table. Note that some of the links does not work because the demo file is missing for some translations.

Steps I have taken:

  1. Created a branch called 'gh-pages'
  2. Inserted hard coded links in README.md to http://donkarlssonsan.github.io/kendo-global/demo/kendo_global.xx-YY.html

The proper way to handle this seems to be:

But there is a short cut that many seems to use and which I think i perfectly fine in this case:

  • Just keep everything in branch 'gh-pages'
  • Optionally delete 'master'

What do you think about this idea?
