calin's Introduction

calin

calin is a calibration and analysis package for data from arrays of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov detectors (IACTs). Its main purpose is as a development platform for calibration algorithms for CTA and in particular for NectarCam.

The name

calin is a (French) word that my three-year-old daughter says a lot. Here it isn't meant to mean anything specific, but to evoke the word "calibration". Since acronyms abound in astronomy it could at a stretch stand for "calibration and analysis for large IACT networks", but that wasn't the original motivation.

calin's Issues

Track down NLOpt exceptions

Find out cause of random exceptions from NLOpt with exp gauss models. Catch exceptions in callback and print

Python interface with SWIG

Start Python interface with SWIG. Try some different ways to lat out modules. How to handle protobufs??

Investigate CI

Investigate the open source options for CI. TravisCI? See matt's project

Add logging class

  • should allow multiple outputs
  • one of these should use Python O/P to allow printing into ipython notebooks
  • think about locking

Log spline improvements

Allow for specifying a(0) rather than b(0) and also allow setting of these parameters for last point rather than first

Fix logic with regard to OID and inherited keys

  • Why do we need to "select_inherited_keys" ?
    • where would they come from and
    • where in general would we store them (if we were selecting from the subtree)
  • Don't select OID when it's provided
  • Why do we really need to select parent_oid? What would we do with it anyway?

Threading policy

Decide on a threading policy and add threading constructs where appropriate - eg in spe_likelihood
