startify's Introduction

Work in progress recreation of the Windows 10's start menu for all Windows 11 builds.

How to launch - notes

Remember that Startify Requires the following runtime to start: .NET Core 3.1 Runtime x64
If you are using MicaForEveryone, please configure it as you see on the image below

Supported operating systems and configurations:

All Windows 11 builds (stock xaml taskbar)
All Windows 11 builds (ExplorerPatcher Windows 10 taskbar, and the reimplemented one, ep_taskbar)

Unsupported, but might "work":

All Windows 11 builds (with StartAllBack) (Start button glitches)
Windows 10 > 1903 (Works ok, you need to download and install Segoe Fluent Icons)

Hi! How to contact you? We are also writing WinUI3/UWP applications, can we communicate?

[Feature request] The start button is placed on the left, but the other buttons are placed in the middle.

We may not be able to do this easily, so is it possible to simply cover the start button?

2 Start Menus Open

Sometimes when I press the windows key a few times, it opens 2 start menus, and sometimes it opens a left start menu with center taskbar

I want to know please tell.

The programm kinda launches for a second, but its disables in 1 second, and it only sends the notfication, no signs of life for this programm. Can't give much info bc idk how to give more feedback, as it doesnt give any error codes, its just lags like hell, gives 2 notifications that it works, and there is no new start menu.

pinyin character cannot follow alphabet character

Tiles resizing back after adding new tile

When I try to add a new tile when the others are sized diferently, the other ones change its size back to medium.

Startify Menu Won't Open

I tried opening the menu from the options button but it's grayed out. I also tried opening the app to see if I can see the settings and not happens

Why Startify window doesn't open?

I think this error message because of Startify doesn't support RTL?

When I click on Start it opens the original one, whether from key or the button, and app windows doesn't open.
The modfied Start menu opens for once when I open Startify.

Also, we don't forget the modified Start menu isn't in the right (correct) position for RTL.

Hook error

After this popup I get the notification and my mouse lags a bit but then it crashes.

Use OOP/COM or AppExtension to create live tile

OOP way is like Windows Widgets and Dev Home. Making this app as a com server, then provide APIs like Windows SDK to push live tile XML.
AppExtension way is like Start Menu Companions. Apps register as a extension of this app and provide the live tile XML file. Then this app can read the file and show it.
It's better to find out where the original live tile XML saved at. But I can't find it...

Outdated framework

.NET Core 3.1 was released 5 years ago (12.2019), and went out of support in December 2022. It was since been superseded by .NET 5, 6, 7, and currently .NET 8.

Using .NET Core 3.1 to develop this project, and requiring users to install an unsupported runtime seems strange. Is this very intentional, or is it a tech debt that is planned to be updated to a current framework?
