Credits and notes

The tile layout is based around an user editable xml, which is stored in your User folder, in the DirectStart folder. Documentation for various settings coming soon.

Notes:

  • If you are building the application manually, you need to put the contents of the "ConfigurationTemplate" folder in the repository into your user folder.
  • To "pin" items to the start menu, please put them in the "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\StartMenu"

directstart's Issues

README.MD update suggested, B8taMenu doesn't support Vista and only supports 7 *SP1* and later

B8taMenu uses .NET Framework 4.6.2, which is not supported by Windows Vista SP2, SP1, and RTM.
Windows 7 is supported by .NET Framework 4.6.2, but you will need Service Pack 1.
Windows 8.0 isn't supported either.

I haven't tested the support on 7 SP1, but no testing is needed for Vista as it definitely does not work on here. Theoretically, if your code isn't too advanced, you could just downgrade the .NET Framework version to v4.6.0 with no code changes needed to support Vista (to support just 8.0, you could use v4.6.1), however this might not work and could interfere with future code additions and the program in general.

You may want to update the list of supported OSes in the README.MD.

Clarity on naming (B8taMenu or DirectStart)?

It's good to bring some clarity to user-facing naming while the project is in its infancy. Unfortunately, it's unclear on what exactly this is caused, and that could confuse users.

This repository is named B8taMenu, and this is also the name used by the entire installer (see source.iss) and thus the installation files and default desktop shortcuts. This is the prominent name of everything.

On the other hand, the solution file is called, and references to the project in Start menu.exe may include, "DirectStart".

GUI to configure B8taMenu

Hey, i probably look familiar lmao
I'm emerald, the guy from ClassicServ who suggested the name "B8taMenu"
This is a really nice program, however my suggestion:
You should make a config GUI sorta like SIB++ or Open-Shell. That way, configuring the tiles and skin are easier.
