You have 0.1.2 on github, but it's not available for install via pip.

Test code could be migrated to py.test, which is less verbose (no boilerplate testing, no inheritance from TestCase).

This is easily done, because py.test automatically detects and runs regular Django test cases. Also, requirements.txt should list all dependencies.

I can't pip upgrade the package to work with Django 4 since the version wasn't bumped with the last update that added Django 4 support. I've linked directly to the GitHub to make it work, but a simple version bump would be helpful to anyone who might expect pip upgrade to work.

django-favicon only supports having a favicon.ico file the web root, as of today. Instead, it should support all major browsers and platforms.

The ReadFaviconGenerator.net service could be used (as an example) for achieving this.

The app should get the most out of today's favicon handling as a pluggable app in the Django eco system.
