edison-ethernet's Issues

Board cannot accommodate Sparkfun base block

The board extends too far out its left (if viewed top-down with text facing upright) to accommodate a USB cable plugged into the Sparkfun Base Block if the Base Block is stacked directly on top of the Ethernet Block. Currently, an intermediary block (such as the GPIO block) must be stacked between thee two to facilitate plugging in a USB cable.

Create custom BitBake layers for a Debian-based distro

In order to use the LAN9512 chip, we had to use a custom yocto kernel using bitbake linux-yocto -c menuconfig to add the smsc95xx.ko module. In order to add our own scripts and allow others to contribute to our work, we are currently storing the inflated root filesystems in their own repos (yocto and debian). Our src/package.sh script creates a compatible image out of the specified repo for flashing.

Ideally, we would have a custom BitBake layer(s) for a Debian-based distro that included the smsc95xx module, along with any other custom scripts/utilities (i.e., the macchanger script).

Currently, in the Intel Edison Yocto Linux Source, there is a directory in ./out/current/poky named meta-skeleton. This could probably be used to model a new BitBake layer with the correct parameters for Debian.

This would allow people to truly contribute to source, and not the inflated filesystem.

Compiled version of smsc95xx for kernel 3.10.98

Latest official Edison image (rel 3.5) comes with kernel 3.10.98. Would like to add Ethernet support to this image version. Would it be possible for you to provide the compiled ko files for 3.10.98? Thanks!

Power board from Edison-Ethernet block

Being able to power the board via the Edison-Ethernet block would eliminate the need for the Base Block. It may be nice to also add a FTDI chip on the Ethernet-Edison block.
