Measures of Dispersion

?: Summary statistics for two samples of data are

Sample 1:
mean = 19 variance = 10

Sample 2:
mean = 10 variance = 19

Which sample has the larger spread of observations?

( ) Sample 1 (X) Sample 2

?: Consider the following unordered set of data:

4 4 4 9 5 0 5 1 5 3 5 7 5 8 6 2 6 6 6 6 6 8 7 1 7 5 7 7 8 0 8 5

What is the InterQuartile Range (IQR) for this dataset?

( ) 2 (X) 3 ( ) 3.5 ( ) 4.25

?: Imagine that the number of marriages registered over a 10 year period were as follows:

Table 1. Number of registered marriages

Year Number of Marriages
1 40,650
2 40,812

Last Question no solvable

I think you forgot to offer a List of values for the last Question to calculate the quartiles from

Answer for #2

I think the answer for number 2 is incorrect. Or the question has a typo.

The problem says the dataset is ordered so, even though it's formatted weird, it seems that the dataset is: 44 49 50 51 53 57 58 62 66 66 68 71 75 77 80 85 which would give a median value of 64, a Q1 value of 52, and a Q3 of 73. That would make the IQR equal to21.

Alternately, the dataset is unordered and the question has a typo. (If it's unordered, the median is 5.5, Q1 is 4 and Q3 is 7 which gives an IQR of 3.)
