I had 568 notes in Outlook and I evaluated multiple alternatives to replace Outlook and use an application that allows graphics and other functionality. I selected Google Keep but it was very hard to migrate the Notes from Outlook. Using this tool from Lambros and a macro helped with the process of migrating Notes from Outlook to Google Keep.
This is the final solution:
Preparation:
-
Use the macro suggested here which is used to migrate from Outlook to OneNote: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/transfer-outlook-notes-onenote/
-
Modify the macro:
Instead of: .Subject = i & " -- " & Left(obj.Subject, 50)
Use: .Subject = "NotesImport " & Left(obj.Subject, 50)
Instead of: .Recipients.Add "[email protected]"
Use: .Recipients.Add "[email protected]"
replace "youremailadress" with your Gmail address
-
Select one note in Outlook (don't open it, just highlight it)
-
Run the macro (the green triangle). This will send an EMail with the Note to GMail
-
In GMail select that EMail and create a rule, i.e. for all EMail from your Outlook address with the word "NotesImport" and the action is to assign a Label, i.e. Notes
Now you are ready for the actual migration process:
-
In OutLook, select the Notes to be migrated (highlight one and use CTRL key to select multiple Notes). I did it in batches of 50 and by category so I could verify and assign the original category in G Keep.
-
Run the Macro. (Do not use outlook while the process runs)
-
Wait a few minutes and all Notes will be sent to GMail and marked with the correct Label
-
Make sure you are in the Home Page of Google Keep at: https://keep.google.com/#home
-
Execute the LP G2K extension and, when asked, enter the name of the Label you used in step 5 above.
-
Your Notes are imported to Google Keep. You can assign categories if needed and delete those EMails from GMail.
cava.
