Good catch!
I can fix the overlapping issue in the next push. I'd rather not restrict images, even in excerpts for now. I agree the ellipses +arrow isn't very descriptive, I'll think about a change or maybe making it a custom option.

A custom option would be great for the "read more" part.

Out of interest do you have a Child Theme for Casper uploaded anywhere? I never have much luck creating them. I want to start setting up a blog but should really have a child theme for when all your changes appear in an update.

That is a great suggestion. I will look into creating a "starter" child
