I definitely like this and I agree that the excerpt looks better, I just never want to hamper flexibility. How would it work? Would the user be forced to adhere to any formatting rules or would the posts automatically be truncated after a certain length?
It would need to be an option in the customizer. If people want a long ass page, they shall have it.

I haven't worked with the customizer much, but I would say that the user would have the option to set whether they want full post or excerpt and then they'd choose how many words they wanted to show.
They could then set how many excerpts show on the settings->reading page.
