Some thoughts.

Hello Karl,

you asked for feedback online, here are some thoughts.

I think you are missing negation. Not in the arithmetic sense, but in the regular expression sense where e.g. [^a] stands for everything except a. Without that, certain constructs become difficult to specify. (e.g. how would you specify unnested block comments e.g. /* .... */ without negation?). This would complicate things a bit, because in general, e.g. functions could not be negated.
