This is expected. While the resolution stays the same, the app actually saves the covers compressed to save on storage. The reason this is only visible after the app is re-launched is because when you add the games, it just uses the cover art that it loaded originally.

The quality change is very noticeable though, so I will probably up the quality settings.

I was curious about this, but I can only see a difference if I do an extreme zoom-in, except at the mountain top where the transition from gray to white looks a bit blurry and noticeable even at normal scale.

My collection of 26 games takes 4mb at compression and 22mb with lossless images. People who read this ticket in the future can draw their own conclusions if the extra disk space usage is worth it for a small difference. Personally, not for me, I don't think it matters. On the other hand, app performance after loading the images will be identical no matter what format you choose, so literally the only difference is how much disk space you'll be using for the images.
