And FWIW, if you don't actually need a string slice to do something with, I'd write it like this:

rule kind() -> Type
  = "empty" {Type::Empty}

  / "bool" {Type::Boolean}
  / "nat" {Type::Natural}
  / "int" {Type::Integer}
