What?

kasthack.Timelapser is a timelapse screen video recorder for Windows.

Why does this exist?

Sometimes you want to show your work process to people briefly.

Requirements

  1. Windows 7+
  2. .NET 7

Usage

  1. Download the app: Github All Releases
  2. Unpack
  3. Run kasthack.Timelapser.exe.

Troubleshooting

Q: Saved video just shows black screen.

A: If you have a dual-screen setup AND trying to open the created recording with Windows Movies & TV, it's an issue with the player. Try VLC instead.

Q: Timelapser doesn't record videos.

A: Try Legacy recording method if you're on Windows 7 or 8,

High latency frames are counted as slow for multithreaded capturing

If a frame acquisition takes more than frame timeout, it's counted as slow, even if multithreaded capture allows sustaining capture rate.

e.g.

  • in the picture above frames 1..4 get marked as slow, even though they shouldn't be.
  • render pool size should be equal to the number of steps probably?

Frame loop for no apparent reason

Describe the bug

Sometimes screen recording gets stuck with a few repeating frames after a few minutes.
This is reproducible with both renderers, so it's not a single renderer bug.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Start recording with default settings.
  2. Wait for a while.
  3. Stop recording.
  4. Open the resulting file in a player.

Expected behavior
Recording contains a timelapse.

Input: two 4k screens.
