It's "Resolving host..." for a very long time before redirecting. Bug?
Can I just edit some ini file to add a lot of alias instead of add it one by one?
It certainly decreases the productivity levels when I first have to wait for chrome to try to reach the website and because it doesn't exist then show me the error page and then takes me to my desired site.
Plus as mentioned in #4 , if I type g then it will show me github.com or other frequently visited site.
If it's github then I don't need the extension. If not github.com then I'll need to clear the predicted text add a "/" and then wait.
Can anything be done to shorten the time waiting ?
I want to do do something like
g/cat/
and be redirected to https://github.com/kieranoreilly/cat/
Unfortunately the /cat/ isn't appended
Hi,
This is my first Github issue so forgive me if I violate any norms...
I do not have a Broadband internet connection atm so I use my mobile hotspot. The issue is that URLAlias will often not work and I will get an error message from my mobile service provider saying it cannot find that link. However, if I open the URLAlias options, leave it open, and then enter the alias again in a new tab, it redirects it just fine. This happens almost every time without fail. It's as if the aliases are "timing out" after a while and the only way to "refresh" them is to open the options page. (FWIW this only seems to happen on the mobile hotspot connection, I haven't tested it thoroughly but I can't remember ever seeing it happen when connected to a "regular" WiFi connection.)
Having said that, I love URLAlias and I hope you can identify the problem!
I like the simplicity of your chrome extension, but I would find it a lot more useful if it had a popup as well for adding new aliases.
What I think would work well would be something like what Vimium does for the 'exclude keys' for each site. You could have the options page with the full UI you have now, but you could also have a popup that, when opened, will automatically put the current URL in the destination box, leaving the user to type in an alias and click "save." This could also have a link to easily open the configuration page that already exists.
I like constantly configuring things, but I hate going to chrome://extensions/
, scrolling through to your extension, clicking options
, copy-pasting my URL, and figuring out a suitable mapping.
why do I have to end every alias string with a front slash "/"? If I have a URL alias, for example:
bn
https://us.battle.net/d3/en/
in Avant Browser OR Firefox, I just type
bn[enter]
in the address field, and it works. Same with dynamic alias'.
i
https://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&q=%s
I type
i google logo[enter]
and the address resolves to
https://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&q=google logo
Why can't your extension work like the others?
I have defined the below alias.
whosis/### https://dig.whois.com.au/ip/###
The current redirection always adds a forward slash (/) at the end causing some URLs to not work.
Example
https://dig.whois.com.au/ip/201.148.125.115/
-- I get Route not found
But
https://dig.whois.com.au/ip/201.148.125.115
-- this URL provides me the desired data.
Hey @karan
I know it's probably a long shot, still wanted ask: Is there a Firefox version? Or do you plan one?
Cheers,
Peter
Hi, I've been using this extension for a while, and I really appreciate it!
However, the latest minor version of Vivaldi (2.8) has kind of broken aliases. For example, let's say I've aliased https://github.com
to g
. After the latest update, I can't invoke the alias without prepending the url scheme, so in this case it'd be https://g
. Oddly enough, it still works with zero or one slashes, e.g. http:g
.
Maybe you don't support this browser, or maybe it should be fixed in the browser instead, but I thought it might be possible to fix within your plugin, and if I were you I'd probably want to know about this.
Thanks.
I'm on OSX 10.11.6, Chrome Version 52.0.2743.116 (64-bit), and i can't get it to work. Maybe another plugin is conflicting with this?
