gradient's Issues

0-10%

Thank you for the gradients, I've been looking for them for so long!
But for the black level adjusting it is necessary to have 0-5% or 0-10% range to see each bar with low black level more clarity. Could you do this file?

Thanks :)

Just wanted to open an issue to say thank you. Great material to test out several TVs and monitors!

Video doesn't trigger HDR

Hi, I came across the following issue with the 4K test videos:
when I start an encoded 4K movie with MadVR on my PC or with Plex on my TV, the monitor / TV switches to HDR mode and banding disappears. But with this video, HDR isn't triggered. Is there some sort of metadata that needs to be added? Here is the media info for both files (test video on the left):

x265 command parameters

I have forgott to add the correct parameters of the x265 encoder, I will update the script soon...

How to test on pc?

I ran the video file on pc with a R9 280 graphics card sending to an LG 24UD58-B connected via DisplayPort @ UHD / 3840x2160 @ 60Hz. There is a visible difference between the 2 bands (especially in the first third of the grey gradient) but when changing the color depth in Radeon Settings to 8 bpc or 6 bpc, this difference is still visible.

Is 10bit not systemwide?

This is just a general question. The only way for me to view 10bit color is through Photoshop, using this test, I was able to verify that the photo's application that windows uses natively doesn't support 10bit, and I'm wondering if it's supposed to?

Shows 8 bit panel for LG G7

Thanks for the great work.
LG G7 display is officially HDR10 and is said to be a 10 bit display. But the test image shows only 256 bars for 10 bit colors on LG G7 display. The model I am using is LG G7 LM-G710N. Can it really be a only 8 bit panel?

No difference?

I'm running a M1 MBP with a Dell U2720Q. Confirmed a 10 bit signal when connecting the Mac via the monitor, even turned on HDR. When I looked at the clips I honestly couldn't' see much of a difference even pixel peeping. The colours looked pretty much identical and you can somewhat see a tiny difference with the grey, but not from a regular viewing distance.

Is this result expected? I know the monitor isn't true 10 bit it's 8Bit + FRC, but still would have thought the difference to be perceivable which it doesn't appear so. Just was wondering if it was worth shooting 10 bit video but from this test, not sure if it makes much of a difference.

Some YUV sample videos are tagged in the wrong color range

Hello,

I think the test samples \test_sequences\1920x1080\gradient_1920-1080_0-25_gbrp10le_x265.mp4 and \test_sequences\1920x1080\gradient_1920-1080_0-25_yuv444p10_x265.mp4 are supposed to be showing the same colors, but they're not.

Based on the actual pixel data I guess the reason is as follows: the YUV colors were converted from the RGB video, namely, from full-range RGB to limited-range YUV. Then the YUV video was tagged as full range by the encoding toolchain (the encoder usually doesn't take conversion, just tags).

Since most video players capable of handling 10-bit output are using this tag, it deserves to be fixed.

Thanks
