You probably saw in the README that it is at very early proof-of-concept experimentation phase. PRs are welcome (and I see a few that I'll review this week). I'm personally concentrating on core JupyterLab development for the near future. If someone wants to really push this forward, please let me know. I do feel it's a valuable extension to work on, and want to get back to it, but for the near future core JLab development takes priority.

(In general, though, extensions for JLab itself are npm packages, so there are no plans at this point to release pip/conda packages, because there is no advantage to gain from releasing those package formats.)
