gmenu2x-aliasfile-generator's Introduction

Hi 👋 I’m Josh

Husband. Father. Pug dad. Musician.

I’m Josh Sherman, a product-minded engineer that’s been developing web applications since before the turn of the century. I’ve been fortunate enough to lead teams for $10MM+ startups and scale systems to tens of millions of users.

I’m also the founder of Holiday API, Head of Engineering at Mailshake, and author of the best damn Lorem Ipsum Library for PHP.

My personal site is a collection of my writing over the last 16 years with a heavy focus on technology, development, and occasionally, fermentables.

gmenu2x-aliasfile-generator's Issues

Move ", the" and ", a" to the start of the alias value

In order to maintain a sane search order, files tend to be named like Something Something, The. Works great, but the name of the game would look better if it was converted back to The Something Something while maintaining it's proper alphabetical ordering

Piping to file includes node.js output

This is included as part of the output:

> [email protected] start
> node src/index.mjs -d /path/to/roms

Unsure if this breaks the aliasfile or not. Ideally would be nice to suppress this information, but worst case, may need to add in an additional argument to specify where to write the output, and we can do that part internally to omit this additional output.

A Pongsteroids & Yars' Revenge

The code to move the article to the start of the alias gets confused by Pong, Asteroids & Yars' Revenge and turns it into the aforementioned subject line.

Traverse directories and generate multiple files

Right now you have to run the script multiple times to create an aliasfile for multiple systems. I'd like to think that most people's libraries are full of different systems, so it would be nice to allow for a parent directory to be passed in, and individual files are generated for each sub directory.

Still would fall apart in scenarios where the library has an additional level of nesting (thinking game categories, or breaking up the library by the first letter, etc)
