emoji-helper's Issues

Add link to Emojipedia.org

I think a nice to have feature would be to have a link to http://emojipedia.org/ in the GUI somewhere when a emoticon is selected. This way you can easily check what is meant by this emoticon or how it looks with different emoticon styles.

Bookmarklet Images Loading too slow

They are loaded over https, which makes them uncachable I guess. This is bad.

Possible Solutions:

  • Try loading over http and see what happens
  • SpriteMap? (Would that improve anything?)
  • Scale down images just for the bookmarklet... (Sounds best to me)

Unicode support

Quoting @phurccon at #18

Since this is a cheat sheet for emoji, can you add unicode emoji support (like ones listed at http://getemoji.com/ --is this the same with the google ones?) so besides normal text like mentioned above it also has corresponding unicode character to copy to clipboard. Facebook and Twitter supports this kind of emoji--although not all of them.

paw prints is missing the unicode symbol

When using "paw_prints" the Unicode symbol is missing but when using "feet" the alternative name for "paw_prints" the Unicode symbol is present. After using both of them I now have two of the same Emoji for paw prints because "paw_prints" and "feet" don't seem to be aliased as one single Emoji.

Improvement on V 1.1.1

Hi Johann,

I was happy to see the option to insert directly emoji this morning....

But it's not available for UNICODE sadly 😭

Could you add an option "Insert UNICODE to Active Input" ?
It would be very useful.

Twitter new tweet input issue

Hello.

First of all, I'd like to say thanks to you for keeping the development of this add-on. I've been using this for months and it's simply so helpful.
Anyway, what I'd like to report is an issue with Twitter's new tweet input.
I don't know if this had been reported before. But considering Twitter is rather popular, I'd assume that it had been reported before, but well, I'll just report it anyway.
The issue is that, the feature to input emoji straigh to active input isn't working properly.
I'm on Chrome. Whenever I'm on the new tweet input, and then I click on the emoji add-on icon, it appears the input loses its focus. So even though I click the button that adds emoji to active input, it'll do nothing.
I guess it's something on Twitter side that makes input from losing focus whenever someone click outside the website canvas or something.

Oh well, that's all.
Hope to hear more from you about this.

Regards.

Firefox Icon Bug

I don't know why but only after the first installation the icon was added to the menu.
After a restart of the Browser (v30.0, WIN7-64) the icon was gone. It's also not in the custom area where you can drag and drop elements around.

Even disable/enable of the addon or removing, restart, reinstalling didn't helped. The icon is still gone.

:package:

📦 is in unicode.json but I'm not seeing it in the Chrome extension.

Customizable shortcuts for each emoji symbol

Possibility to add a customizable shortcut for each emoji symbol so that it copy/pastes the emoji without the need to use mouse. Alternatively It would be nice to be able to navigate and choose emoji by using e.g. arrow keys + enter.

Add option for window persistence

Currently, the emoji helper window closes automatically when it loses focus. This means that if you want to copy more than one emoji in a row, you have to open the helper, select the first emoji, paste it, then open the helper again, find the next emoji, and so on.

Adding the option to keep the window open when it loses focus would improve this extension's functionality considerably.

(If this is already an option somewhere, then pardon the duplicate; I didn't see it.)

Firefox - color emoji

When I use the drop down to select an emoji, it is in color, but no matter what I do, when I select it to paste into Twitter it is in black and white only?

Slow load time

Sometime is can take upwards of 20 seconds for the drop down to appear after clicking it in Chrome. It works fine on Firefox.

Hide emojis not used by current website

For instance, Facebook isn’t compatible with all emojis (some being in Unicode, and certainly not Github’s custom ones). :octocat:

Emoji-Helper could hide them in the list when visiting the website, or at least set down their opacity, so a uninformed user would not insert them by mistake.

There’s no point in adding some crocodiles 🐊 🐊 🐊 in a Facebook conversation, because Facebook won’t render them!

That would mean maintaining a list of compatible (or non-*) emojis by website.

(Related in the ‘contextual changes of Emoji-Helper’ theme is #35)

Add Google Emojis [feature request]

Any way Google's emojis (those used in Hangouts and Android) can be added to the extension?

Excuse me if this isn't the right place to ask, it was the only place I could find to get in contact with you.

Thanks!

Improve copy behavior

The automatic copying of emoji codes/unicode can be improved. The copy button next to the text input field is not needed at all. Selection/copying on input field click could be better, but not very transparent, so we might need a short popover confirming that the user now has the text in his clipboard.

  • Remove copy button
  • Select and copy text on click in input field
  • Add popover information

firefox refuse remember settings

As i get in settings and mark to use unicode in clipboard, after restarting firefox, this setting gets back to : joy : marking. Kinda annoying.
Firefox version 41.0.1 on Windows 7 64bit.

Since update of Firefox 37.0.2 Emoji Cheatsheet causes other "No Restart" add-ons to go AWAL

Since update of Firefox 37.0.2 Emoji Cheatsheet causes other "No Restart" add-ons to go AWAL

Took me over a hour and Next day before I figured out that your Add-on is causing the other "No Restart" icons on toolbar/ add-on bar to vanish. When the Emoji Cheatsheet is not showing on toolbar so isn't the other "No Restart". When I disable Emoji Cheatsheet everything works fine then.

it was working fine on Firefox 37.0.1

Show emoji name when hovering the emojis

Basically what I put on the title. If you're going to implement the feature to add emoji straight to focused input bar, it'll be best to be able to see the emoji's name when hovering it on the list. At the moment, since I tend to forget the actual meaning of certain emojis, I simply click on it to see its name from its BBCode descriptor.

code copied automatic

Hy admin.
how about after we select emoji, then code smiley is automatic copied ?
i thnk this will be nice feature
please your help ^^

Option for default copying :bbcode_descriptor: or unicode to clipboard

Perhaps you could add a "clipboard option", where the user can select whether the :bbcode_descriptor: or the unicode is copied to the clipboard by default, when clicking on an emoji 😄

This would avoid extra clicks (especially for unicode users), because now the :bbcode_descriptor: is copied by default once the user clicks an emoji.

Just a minor improvement which (heavy) unicode users will love for sure 😉

Switch between emoji themes depending on visited website

To get a WYSIWYGer experience, Emoji-Helper could switch the emoji theme it is being displayed in, according to the website the user is visiting. 😎

For instance:

  • If I’m on Github, display E-H using gemoji.
  • If I’m on Twitter, display using twemoji.

That would mean implementing more themes (see #34).

For websites using themes that are not under a free license, I wonder if it would be possible (and legal) to temporarily use the website’s own images (e.g. dynamically displaying Facebook’s emojis sprite when visiting Facebook).

Auto-paste emoji

What about adding an option to automatically paste the selected emoticon into the currently selected edit box?
This way you do not have to copy & paste it always.
