For running a backup server there are two main routes you can take

• Selfhost it (i.e. run it on hardware you physically own)
• Rent a VPS and run it there

If you decide to run it on a VPS I recommend and use Vultr. As for the actual steps, you can find many guides on how to setup an Apache Webdav server on Ubuntu.
