Overview

The XPS 9520 (with the 14-core i9 processor) is a solid workhorse. With this latest configuration it is possible to install and run macOS Ventura smoothly with any eGPU (tested with an RX580 and an RX6650XT).

UEFI IFR edits

Ahead of installing, as with other hackintoshes you will need to disable CFG_LOCK using modGRUBshell as follows:

setup_var_cv CpuSetup 0x43 0x00

S3/S4 ACPI

Despite Dell's attempts to sabotage S3 sleep, there's an ongoing effort to render hiberation (S4) and then sleep (S3) working again on this machine, having successfully enabled it on the XPS 9500. Currently WIP... The first step is to re-enable S3 from the UEFI interface using modGRUBshell:

setup_var_cv Setup 0xE 0x01

S3 will be present in the macOS boot-up sequence, and will go to sleep but will crash upon startup. ACPI table edits to restore post-S3 sleep states are required, and this is currently WIP.

Known Issues

  • S3 Sleep not working properly yet
  • S4 Sleep currently being worked on
  • LVDS display remains off when eGPU connected

To allow the laptop to function in clamshell mode, you need to press Fn+F8 on the clover boot menu to switch to the external display. That way the laptop LVDS screen is switched off and the external monitor is on. You need to connect a USB/Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, but the setup is much more practical in this way.

No BOOT folder?

Hi.

I'm wondering why there's no BOOT folder in your EFI file? Thanks

Installation Process

Hi there. Great work getting the system to install. So I have managed to get to the installation screen, I have formatted my SSD to APFS but when I get to install I get an error. Il get back to you soon with an error code. My question is essentially what was the steps you took to install MacOS? Did you disable CFG lock etc etc, or any other important points,

Many thanks for any time you can help.

Dan

Good Work

Hi,

Its really good to see a hackintosh for a 12 gen intel processor, I have a HP Victus 12th gen processor, and i'm trying to use your EFI folder, however, its just not booting up. Can you please give me the "BOOT" folder that falls under the EFI folder. Currently your EFI folder only has the OC folder, and I think we need the "BOOT" folder as well for it to work.

Thanks.

Problems

Helo,
I have got some questions:
Should Monterey 12.6.6 install without any problems with your EFI/OC?
(I can't get 12.6.2).
Which bios version are you using?
(I don't have Intel SGX).
I managed to install it, but I don't have WiFi.
(regardless of whether CFG LOCK is disabled before or after installation)

Thank you in advance for your tips
Janusz

Magnificent Hackintosh..

I am a fan of the Hackintosh world, could you leave me Extracted files with EFI debug (better if coming from updated Bios latest version) + ioreg log????
Thank you 1000.
Maybe after reading ACPI I can also help you make slep\wake work better.

Wrong resolution in clamshell mode

Hi.

I have successfully installed mac os and it works pretty fine. Thanks for sharing your work!

I have got one final issue.

When I am on my laptop screen, the resolution is normal (1920X1080). However, when I go in clamshell mode, the resolution is a getting pretty strange (1920X1440). As you can guess, it makes all the content on the screen not render as it should.

Do you have any idea what could cause this?

Thanks a lot
