Add build instructions

Are the instructions from this comment still accurate? If so, they could be added to a "Build instructions" section in the README, or to a CONTRIBUTING.md file, to make them more discoverable and allow others to play with this project.

Bug: empty code block breaks the playground

I tried entering a code block by typing the delimiters first:

and then adding the content within:

test
```

...but this broke the playground, which became unresponsive. The console error is this:
