I noticed a couple of actions in System don't work in 3.1.b2. Have hotkeys assigned for Mute and Screensaver but for some time now they have not opened when I hit their respective keys. Other System keys like shut down, restart, volume up, volume down and sleep work fine. I've tried different keys to make sure it's not my keyboard that's playing up.
Other than that, Spark is a fantastic app. Thanks Jean-Daniel.
Hi,
I've mapped my keyboard's "Clear" button (⌧) to call a script, but with the latest commits (Oct 20), this doesn't work anymore (tried setting different keys as well).
When I repeatedly press the button, I can see the Spark Daemon CPU usage increasing in the background, but the script is not invoked. Pressing the "Run" button does invoke the script correctly though.
Hallo
I have an old MacBook, an OS 10.11.6 and the last Spark I found for it is 3.1b2 (470).
I use Spark often and I love it, I have many Keyboard Shortcuts in use. One of it is a Text fill-in for the Details-Tag here in Github, but unfortunately the Backticks (`) doesnt work, it is replaced with the Tick (´) which doesnt make a code block in MarkDown :-(
Here my "Details":
<details>
<summary>ÜBERSCHRIFT</summary>
´´´ <- here should be 3 backticks but Spark puts Ticks only, when the text is filled
IMPORTANT: after closing /summary and /details empty line
´´´ <- here should be as well 3 backticks
</details>
and always I have to replace the Ticks with Backticks so that the code block is working.
I don't know if this can be fixed otherwise, neither if its a bug in my old version, maybe it is working in the 3.3.2?
Thanks for help.
frank.
3.1.b2 stopped working properly for me on a 10.12.6 machine, so I reverted back to an old Spark version 3.0b11 (470) I luckily found on a backup and all is well again. The 3.1.b2 version didn't respond when I clicked "Start Spark Demon" and many shortcuts I made stopped working including this custom one for Textedit to quickly change colors of sections of text I have selected:
I had it run this with shift-command-B:
tell application "TextEdit"
end tell
tell application "System Events" to tell text area 1 of scroll area 1 of window 1 of process "TextEdit" to if exists then
set {x, y} to value of attribute "AXSelectedTextRange"
if x ≤ y then tell application "TextEdit" to set color of document 1's characters x thru y to {0, 0, 65535}
end if
Nothing happens when I did the shortcut with 3.1.b2, but works perfectly with 3.0b11 (470). I guess I should just stick with the old version that works for now.
I should also mention the interface in 3.1.b2 was jacked up with the "All Application's Hot Keys", etc. button riding up to where the top vertical half of the button was missing.
Does anyone know where one can find older versions of Spark?
I'm assuming not, but with macOS 10.15 Catalina now out, it's going to be a common question.
Today the Spark hotkeys stopped working. I upgraded Spark to the latest version, didn't fix the problem. Rebooted and an error was displayed on startup saying:
"Spark Daemon" was blocked from opening because it is not from an identified developer.
Even if I run sudo spctl --master-disable
then click the "Start Spark Daemon" button in the app it doesn't actually start. There does not appear to be any log messages in the Console that relate to this problem.
Trying to get this to run on Big Sur for volume shortcuts (non-apple keyboard) but not having any luck. the application opens and seems to function, but when I click "Start Spark Agent" nothing happens and shortcuts don't work.
Any ideas on getting this working?
Hello,
Spark 3.0b9 and 3.1b2 are unable to check for updates because they contain broken links.
The problem is that https://www.shadowlab.org/ has been reorganized, and the links within Spark don't point to valid web pages any more. The fix is to release a new version of Spark with updated links, or to restore the old web pages on www.shadowlab.org.
There is another related bug on www.shadowlab.org. The page at https://www.shadowlab.org/softwares/spark.php has a link to the "additional Plugins Page". That page no longer exists.
On another note, thank you for this wonderful little program! It's a gem.
I've created an Application from an AppleScript using osacompile (osacompile -o NewIterm.App NewIterm.scpt
). This script opens a new Iterm window. The created Application works fine from Finder and from the command-line. I'd like to bind this App to an Spark hotkey, but I'm having no luck doing so.
First, it's hard to choose the App from Spark. It seems to let me choose it, but after hitting Create another (random?) App appears in the action instead. Trying to update the binding with my App is similarly frustrated by the original App appearing. I'm not sure how, but by changing the App to other Apps enough times, I got it to successfully create once (though I cannot not now recreate it).
But then my new binding doesn't do anything. Whenever I press the hotkey, nothing happens or appears no matter what settings I have (e.g. Show notification at Launch
).
Does Spark require some attribute of Applications that osacompile
may not be setting? Any suggestions for debugging?
p.s. I've successfully bound other Mac applications to hotkeys so I understand the process in general.
Spark works on Catalina (and it's almost a surprise), but not for all purpose, like placing text (I use the to place a rid of not so much important passwords).
If Spark didn't work at all (like many other utilities I owned), probably I won't search for a solution with it (even I love this utility and I'm really sad to see it isn't actively developed). But while it opens in Catalina and works to lunch application (even older 3.1b2 I used until today, and worked fine for me until Mojave), I hope you can solve the problem for placing text in Catalina. Or give me an input on how to unlock this future in Catalina, where I tried to authorise all I could in "Security & Privacy".
As I saw there's a new 3.3.2 version dated 28 november 2020, I have new hope for Spark return in 2021. Also on AppStore with fee for he's develop.
Good 2021 for Spark’s developer and all those who appreciate Spark.
Using Spark 3.0b9 on Lion. Updated to Sierra (10.12.6) and Spark 3.0b11.
Upon launching 3.0b11, all shortcuts vanished from the library display. They were still there and working, but nothing was displayed. Imported shortcuts from splx backup, they showed up; but later, upon launching 3.0b11 to add a new shortcut, they were gone again.
Deleted all Spark-related files, reverted to 3.0b9, imported shortcuts from backup, works as expected, including library display.
Sorry, I'm quite a noob to git or GitHub and this is the only way I found to ask a question.
I read about Spark and downloaded a version from your site in hope to finally convert the Eject button in my ElCapitan.
Can you please help me?
Dear JD:
I've been maintaining an app PPC Media Center http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/ppc-media-center-watch-modern-internet-video-ppc-macs-running-104105 that makes most modern web-videos play on older, PPC Macs. Your app Spark makes it SOOO much easier to use, and I'm making contact to ask if you might allow me to bundle it in the installer (am putting together what will likely be the last version of it '6.0' in a week or so)? The folks at FLV Crunch and Perian have been granted permission and yours is the last really important app for this to function correctly. I'm just afraid that, like so many other PPC packages, this might just become impossible to find suddenly. If you are willing to consider this, please reply back to this or email me at game_creator (at) hotmail.com
Thanks so much! Love what you've made here!
I'm trying to put my Spark Library.splib
under version control within my dotfiles repository. In order to do this, I'm replacing the Spark Library by a symlink:
cd "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Spark"
mv "Spark Library.splib" "$HOME/.dotfiles/spark/Spark Library.splib"
ln -s "$HOME/.dotfiles/spark/Spark Library.splib" "Spark Library.splib"
After that, starting Spark does not work:
Could you have a look into that? Thanks!
