I think we discussed this on email.. there are some issues with alternate images in non-simple situations because of the way they must be preloaded. I'm working though getting 1.2.5 released soon and am going to refactor this feature as well as cleaning up a couple other sketchy edge situations that I have come across in the last couple months.
