Deployment

SBT:

  • Use sbt command release to publish to maven repos.
  • Use sbt command test and testOnly to run tests.
  • You should be able to use it roughly immediately; and after many hours you should see at maven repo listings here.

Building a jar.

  • Simplest way is to set up a build artifact in intellij IDea.

Technical choices

Scala

  • One can write much more concise code (1/4th to 1/3rd relative to Java and 3/4ths to 5/6ths relative to Python, according to this )
    • For example, the ease with which one can iterate in scala using higher order functions (the maps, filters and zips above) available with scala's excellent collections library.
  • while not sacrificing the ability to use java libraries, and readability/ speed of java.
  • It is increasing in popularity relative to competitors : scala vs clojure ( Google trends ), scala vs julia ( Google trends ).
  • Here is a good series of blog posts which provide an introduction to Scala.

Tamil phonetic typing with m17n and ibus

I have been using the Tamil phonetic input method from m17n with ibus for several years now on Manjaro. Please see the link above for an image and some details. The phonetic input with ibus allows Tamil to be typed phonetically without leaving the English keyboard and is immensely useful and convenient.

But the m17n-db package is missing the Tamil phonetic input at present. It would be very helpful if it could be included in this indic fork.

Do people on this project have access to the data file for Tamil phonetic? If not, I will try to retrieve it from an earlier installation and upload it here according to instructions. Could you kindly include this in a future release please?

Thanks.

EDIT 1: After some digging, I have come to realize that the files /usr/share/m17n/ta-phonetic.mim and /usr/share/m17n/icons/ta-phonetic.png are indeed included in m17n-db-indic, but they are not displayed for choice in the ibus preferences. Pray tell me how to make them available as ibus choices. Thanks.

EDIT 2: After I did ibus-setup again, the Tamil phonetic input method has become available again. Sorry for the noise. All is well. Cheers! Please close this issue.
