Probably best to create a separate unit test for the format of the output.

The format is also tested when checking tax and other output, but it's better to test it separately. Perhaps that test can use the exact same values in the sample output, then different values are used for the other tests

Hardcode values for the unittest rather than generating them so that the test is predictable

it seems like a good idea to choose this standard as it is more prevalent in software projects

The taxes produce a different value using these two formulas

taxes = meal_cost * 0.075;

taxes = cost * 7.5 / 100;

Either modify the unittest or explicitly instruct students to use one formula over the other
