I found this code when looking for a solution to this problem. However, I later found a kivy instruction that fixes it.

If you add "allow_no_selection: False" to every button in the group it prevents you toggling any button off. The radio group will then work like a radio group should with only one button down and always one button down.

For some reason it defaults to True which is why we have to set it to False to make it work correctly.
