I've personally moved my set up to a "block all then manually whitelist" solution. It locally uses AdGuard Home far more efficiently and directly.

What I've done:

✅ modified the script to be more friendly and easier to run
✅ open sourced the generator (PowerShell and Python based) for the public
✅ commited up until September 30, 2021 and then stopped
✅ archived it and will no longer commit to it (no more updates)

My assessment of this repo is that it:

is too large
has a wide hit-and-miss ratio
makes AdGuard Home use too much RAM
makes manually adding whitelisted sites slow or not apply
takes too long to generate
is not the right approach

and that it simply doesn't meet modern requirements.

filterlist-for-adguard-or-pihole's Issues

Use of proper syntax for extra protection and compability reasons.

Examples:

||google.com^ instead of google.com to block google and all its subdomains.

/((^)|(.))telemetry./ instead of ((^)|(.))telemetry. otherwise the REGEX rule simply doesn't work.

For allowlist: login.live.com or ||login.live.com^ instead of @@||login.live.com^$important

Adguard home automatically whitelists all the domains enrolled in DNS allowlist, rendering the @@ syntax redundant.

Hi, I believe this is a false positive in custom_blocklist.txt

google.c rule blocking all google services , even google search, please could you remove this rule?

Github does not open while the filter is active.

Using the wrong filter

Hi!

This filterlist is using https://dbl.oisd.nl/, but according to the maintainer of the filter https://abp.oisd.nl should be used for AdGuard products. The dbl version is made for Pi-Hole.

PGA Tour 21 PS4 Breaks

PGA Tour 21 PS4 Game will be broken without white listing this link.

Here's the weird part, disconnecting the ps4 system, you be able to get passed the start menu to access the main menu except you can't do any live features from playstation. When I re-hook the ethernet while the game is on, in the main menu, the game gets notified with the games signia at the bottom right corner, then the game gets unresponsive out of the blue. You can see the particles fly due to being a sports EA game but the game gets halted for whatever reason that this telemtry link does to this game. I can't explain why it needs it so desperately that this will cause the game to brake. The normal function's outside the game of the playstation OS works fine. Just that this game is a total dud if your connected to your internet while this is blocked. Game is brand new and sealed that came in the mail.

I have no idea if this is the same case for the xBox.

I don't know how many people would use this great filterlist but I just liked this info out to be known of this very weird issue.

This is a CNAME for ocsp.int-x3.letsencrypt.org. This domain is the check as to whether a certificate has been revoked or not - Online Certificate Status Protocol or OCSP for short
This will in effect break letsencrypt certs if using deep CNAME inspection

video feed. - CNN & The Weather Channel

One for cnn which i figured out the pictures comes from cdn.cnn.com
Other from weather channel, pictures from s.w-x.co. player looks like its coming from ssl.p.jwpcdn.com but errors out, firfox says it works while edge says it doesn't, not sure its a fluke on my end.
Unable to figure out for the player to pop up and play. Any ideas what I can, to whitelist?

For now, I have removed all of the lithium sites from my list in the following commit: 7323cd8

I will add some khoros.com URLs soon as well, fyi.

I think what has happened here is Lithium went through a domain change, and now these domains are benign and can be removed from the blocklist.

Please don't block nameservers like "ns[1-4].msft.net" . These are among others for Microsoft domains responsible.

And why do you block "us.gov" ? Makes also no sense to me...

2 Week Hiatus and Important News

Apologies for the delayed updates recently.

I still haven't found a reliable way to schedule uploads. When I try a git synced folder it just prompts for credentials each time making it manual and annoying.

One Invalid Commit - .com domains

Today when I generated the list it seems like of the included list's authors had incorrectly blocked all domains ending with "com".

So if you run into that issue please simply update the blocklist again for the fix (already committed).

The Rules count for that commit should match "277,346".

I'll monitor the issue and may delay updates for 24 hours and check then.
