nsfapcheck's Introduction

NSFAPCheck

I designed this application for the student radio station I work at. It's designed to scan through our music library and find songs that are Not Safe For Airplay. Songs that swear with words that break FCC broadcasting regulations. I'm not a comp-sci person, but I dabble in Python a bit. So this code is likely pretty novice, but it works great for us.

I found a good way to run this on the station's computers (which do not have Python installed) is to use PyInstaller using the onefile parameter. To get this code working for yourself you will have to obtain a Genius lyrics API token. This can be obtained just by signing up to Genius Lyrics and requesting a token from them. It also has a few config settings. By default it moves the NSFAP songs to specified folder. You will have to specify this path yourself, or all the songs will be thrown directly onto your C: drive. Not ideal. It can be configured to outright delete flagged songs as well by uncommenting.

Text Files: The program can output between 1 and 2 text files depending on configuration. The program can be configured to simply write the title of flagged songs to a file. By default songs that cannot be found on Genius lyrics will be output in another txt. This is nessecary because Genius lyrics has a habit of trying to match songs to it's "best fit". This results in the program believing that a certain song is something like a 2020 Presidental debate, or an entire transcript to an episode of Breaking Bad. Also not ideal. This is fixed by matching the metadata and the Genius artist. If these items do not match it will be flagged as not found. For our station, these songs are manually reviewed.
