gridcoin-tasks's Issues

[CLOSED] BITTREX wants to delist GRC: January 27 ("in danger")

Issue by Erkan-Yilmaz
Sunday Jan 22, 2017 at 11:55 GMT
Originally opened as Erkan-Yilmaz/Gridcoin-tasks#42

more trade volume needed, 5 days left

a) could also be a money-making scheme by this exchange: if they'd have lower fees like other exchanges, more volume would come anyways
e.g. "in danger" doesn't sound like "it will"

b) BUT: "Gridcoin featured very prominently on its frontpage" (forum), so free publicity for us :-)

" This market is in danger of de-listing due to low trade volume and lack of user interest. It may be removed on Friday, January 27th 2017 unless the average daily trade volume for the last 14 days exceeds 0.5 BTC. If you would like to keep the market listed, please encourage the development team to contact us at [email protected]. If you have questions about the policy, please see https://bittrex.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202583874."

reason:

  • participation in staking

problems when making this as default:

  • the wallet should be unlocked automatically, or it fails our intended purpose here
  • Gridcoin's startup may slow down the startup, user gets annoyed, kills it, and then the blockchain or config file gets corrupted. And user can't start Gridcoin anymore

todo:

  • I've no Windows, so I'm asking around so people can check if autostart actually works right now
    • ideally on a fresh system, as a newbie would be

Some of these platforms could result in whales moving into GRC from major alts.

it seems: Windows users can not create blocks due to clock off issue :-(

It's not clear yet from where this originates, but it is not @grctest 's servers

so: Katie ?

  • also her irc bot has RPC trouble. her wallet not running perhaps ?

to be clear this is just a thought, don't go witch-hunting :-(

we agreed to wait until he gives feedback

but: ofc, someone else also can contact C-Cex additionally. thx

raising bounties (for opensourced software/apps)

Issue by Erkan-Yilmaz
Sunday Jan 22, 2017 at 01:22 GMT
Originally opened as Erkan-Yilmaz/Gridcoin-tasks#35

In hangout 22 discussed: that bounties for opensourced software/apps is always welcome

see also: get bounties for helping team Gridcoin

questions:

  • requirements for the product?
    • e.g. opensourced stuff, with a good licence for us
  • how much bounty ?
  • "And to be really trustworthy these bounties could be paid beforehand into a certain (multisig?) address, so the people know they really get it paid" (see forum)

some ideas: category: bounty

back in August: though gaining more miners, the activity level of miners dropped

  • new miners have problems ?
  • newbie boost misused ?

  • e.g. boincstats shows new team members

  • search patterns in usernames

$50 or $100 bounty -> developping PoSv3

Issue by Erkan-Yilmaz
Sunday Jan 22, 2017 at 17:35 GMT
Originally opened as Erkan-Yilmaz/Gridcoin-tasks#43

technical details: here

quoting bounty from @frank0051 from there:
"
Given this, if it helps at all, I am going to vote yes on this item but I'm also willing to donate $50 or $100 to the development of this. While it's not much, maybe if other people are willing to do so it could be a bigger incentive.

Request Shapeshift integrate GRC

Originally opened as Erkan-Yilmaz/Gridcoin-tasks#31

@grctest : "Despite Coinami's help, the continued response from ShapeShift is that Gridcoin is on a 'discovery list' and that they are not looking to add further coins in 2017, how disappointing."

  • unless we get liquidity up ?
  • anyways, people should contact them (tweets, email, ...) to bring attention to this

reach out to BOINC projects: GRC donate button (from coinpayments)

Issue by Erkan-Yilmaz
Sunday Jan 22, 2017 at 01:05 GMT
Originally opened as Erkan-Yilmaz/Gridcoin-tasks#27

@grctest : "We should reach out to BOINC projects, asking them to add a donate button (or one of those 'one-name' things) to their website so that we can easily donate GRC to them."

There is a template letter available to do this (ask @Peppernrino)

questions:

  • only whitelisted BOINC projects ?
  • check letter
  • should we get an official email from gridcoin.us ? (ask @grctest)

[CLOSED] Open-source Gridcoin website development

Issue by grctest
Sunday Jan 22, 2017 at 18:46 GMT
Originally opened as Erkan-Yilmaz/Gridcoin-tasks#44

https://github.com/grctest/Gridcoin-Site

The Gridcoin.US website has been open-sourced.

The removal of designmodo's startup-framework has resulted in a lack of CSS, JS and html container/class id's --> The website is glitchy looking, needs tome TLC.

It uses the MiddleMan Static Site generator to minimize duplicate code.

I quickly integrate suitable pull-requests.

Barton26 has helped out recently.

Xubuntu guide:

sudo apt-get install ruby-dev

sudo apt-get install nodejs

sudo gem install middleman

sudo apt-get install git

sudo apt-get install build-essential

git clone https://github.com/grctest/Gridcoin-Site.git

cd Gridcoin-Site

bundle install

bundle exec middleman server

100k GRC bounty -> make a secure and opensourced Gridcoin pool

Issue by Erkan-Yilmaz
Friday Jan 20, 2017 at 15:17 GMT
Originally opened as Erkan-Yilmaz/Gridcoin-tasks#2

Gridcoin has only 1 pool, and when this would not work anymore it'd be bad for newcomers.
It works ok, but the payout is not immediate

Thus the idea is to make an opensourced one:
https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/49262-open-source-project-gridcoin-pool-boinc-account-manager/

Dis-/Advantages of a pool: https://steemit.com/gridcoin/@erkan/pool-or-solo-mining

mentioned in hangout 1:

  • 0:55:50-0:59:10
    • @fkinglag pay Katie a bounty ?
    • @spassbold "definitely worth to pay quite a lot to get this opensourced"

BlockStack usage

Issue by Erkan-Yilmaz
Saturday Jan 21, 2017 at 15:33 GMT
Originally opened as Erkan-Yilmaz/Gridcoin-tasks#19

use case(s):

  • to make a better voting system (mentioned in hangout 2: extract voting data)

further info:

current situation (via @grctest):

  • We are compatible up to a certain release that's over a year old, so their latest developed library isn't compatible.
  • Blackcoin recently ported bitcore (web development - javascript library)
  • Well, we'd still need to get blockstack to integrate Gridcoin or we would have to do the work ourselves (no other alt has support yet, but they've stated previously they were interested in making it blockchain agnostic).

affiliate program

Originally opened as Erkan-Yilmaz/Gridcoin-tasks#13

further info here, e.g.

  • "existing users can generate referral link(s) in the wallet, and new users who downloaded the client from the official site through that link, will have that identifier in the installer itself (or a config file bundled with the installer in a dynamically created zip file, or something)."
  • "separate BOINC project like GridCoin Finance, that controls the affiliate earnings through the project RAC and it's magnitude."

  • so easy pull requests (typos) could be merged into the code
  • more difficult PRs should still require a certain procedure:
    • tested on these OS (windows, linux, ...) ?
    • done these, agreed on, test cases ?
    • and also test cases which are relevant for the changed code parts ?
    • unit tests were added ?
    • ...
  • who should get the additional flag ?
