autohooks-plugin-black

PyPI release

An autohooks plugin for python code formatting via black.

Installation

Install using pip

You can install the latest stable release of autohooks-plugin-black from the Python Package Index using pip:

python3 -m pip install autohooks-plugin-black

Install using poetry

It is highly encouraged to use poetry for maintaining your project's dependencies. Normally autohooks-plugin-black is installed as a development dependency.

poetry add --dev autohooks-plugin-black

Usage

To activate the black autohooks plugin please add the following setting to your pyproject.toml file.

[tool.autohooks]
pre-commit = ["autohooks.plugins.black"]

By default, autohooks plugin black checks all files with a .py ending. If only files in a sub-directory or files with different endings should be formatted, just add the following setting:

[tool.autohooks]
pre-commit = ["autohooks.plugins.black"]

[tool.autohooks.plugins.black]
include = ['foo/*.py', '*.foo']

Also by default, autohooks plugin black executes black with the -q argument. If e.g. the generated patch should be shown the following setting can be used:

[tool.autohooks]
pre-commit = ["autohooks.plugins.black"]

[tool.autohooks.plugins.black]
arguments = ["-q", "--diff"]

Plugin cannot install `black`

I installed autohooks-plugin-black by adding the following line to my Pipfile:

autohooks-plugin-black = "==1.1.0"

Running pipenv install gave the follwing error:

There are incompatible versions in the resolved dependencies.

I was able to solve this by adding black explicitly before the plugin import:

black = "==19.3b0"

Keep black version pinned

I know this is mostly black's fault because they still don't have a non-prerelease release, but can we keep the version of black pinned until they do? Otherwise, trying to use autohooks-plugins-black with pipenv leads to error messages like this:

ERROR: Could not find a version that matches black<=21.6b0,==21.6b0,>=20.8b1

Right now my only solution is the pin autohooks-plugin-black to the version where black was pinned to a single version.

Request to publish new version

Dependency check reported CVE-2024-21503 in black, this way it is suggested to update to use version 24.3.0.

I see the update already was made on the main branch thanks to dependabot.

I would like to request a new release from this package, because there is a need for the vulnerability fix in our project.
