ggplot-tutorial's Introduction

ggplot for python

CFP

Making basic, good-looking plots in Python is tough. Matplotlib gives you great control, but at the expense of being very detailed. The rise of pandas has made Python the go-to language for data wrangling and munging but many people are still reluctant to leave R because of its outstanding data viz packages. ggplot is a port of the popular R package ggplot2. It provides a high level grammar that allow users to quickly and easily make good looking plots. So say good-bye to matplotlib, and hello to ggplot as your everyday Python plotting library!

ggplot-tutorial's Issues

Please don't recommend ipython notebook --pylab

Hi Greg. I'm writing this in the tutorial. Your noteboooks rely on people starting the IPython notebook with --pylab inline. We've found this causes problems for sharing notebooks, because people hit errors if they've run the notebook server without that flag.

For some time, we've been recommending the magic commands %pylab inline or %matplotlib inline which run in the notebook, instead of the command line flag. %matplotlib sets up the IPython integration, %pylab does the same but also puts all the pylab functions in the user namespace.

For the next version of IPython, ipython notebook --pylab will stop working, so we're asking everyone not to recommend it. Thanks.
