fred-jehle-spanish-verbs's Issues

Updates to Spreadsheet Format and Irregular Types

This database has been super helpful in learning Spanish. While piecing together a custom quiz I updated many things and thought I would share them. I am about at the A2 level of Spanish learning, so I didn't mess around with anything besides the Present and Preterite tenses. I thought I'd upload the file here in case anyone found my updates useful.

Here is a summary of what I updated:

  • Added filters
  • Combined "prop" and "conjug" sheets with all "prop" listings on the present tense verb listing of "conjug" sheet
  • Corrected many "e > i" to be "e > ie"
  • Corrected a few other irregular types listings
  • Added "irregular" to irregular types
  • Added "yo irregular" to irregular types
  • Added "yo-go" to irregular types
  • Changed some "o > ue" to be "partpasado; o > ue"
  • Changed "ce > que (-car)" to be "pretérito; ce > que (-car)"
  • Changed "g > gu (-gar)" to be "pretérito; g > gu (-gar)"
  • Changed "ze > ce (-zar)" to be "pretérito; ze > ce (-zar)"

Postgres verbs have spaces in English

What's with the following postgres verbs in the infinitive table?

besar	k i s s
bailar	d a n c e
presentar	t o i n t r o d u c e
esperar	t o h o p e

I tried fixing them, but it gives an error on import.

Merge in updates from @dcomtois

@dcomtois provided an updated version that needs to be merged in. He did his work in MySQL:

I use MySQL, so I could also send you a .sql file if you prefer (I have no postgre export option unfortunately). Anyhow, here's the .ods. To avoid repeating the verb properties over and over, data are split into 2 sheets.

The columns "tipo" and "comun" should be viewed as tentative. Also, to be considered "irregular", a verb only needs to have one irregularity (other sources might consider some of these verbs regular).

                Hello Brian,

                Thanks for the quick reply!

For the changes, there are many of them. Here's a list (maybe not
                exhaustive):

                - Added the present progressive form. For the reflexive verbs, 2
                entries
were created (ex: estoy aburriÈndome, me estoy aburriendo).
                - Modes are now: Indicativo, Condicional, Imperativo, Subjuntivo.
                - For the imperative, columns for "el" and "vosotros" were inverted,
                this was fixed.
                - For the imperative as well, the "nosotros" conjugation was
                lacking,
                this was fixed.
                - "Presente perfecto" was renamed to "PretÈrito perfecto"
                - The 2nd form of the subjunctive imperfect was added, as well
                as the
2nd form of the subjunctive "pluscuamperfecto"

I am not sure how to go about this... I guess the best would be to
publish it as a distinct database, crediting both Mr. Jehle's
                work and
mine... Makes sense? I haven't really got into the details of the
Creative Commons license though... Your advice is most welcome!

                Thanks,

                Dominic
