atom-portable's Issues

Executable missing from Github Zip file

The Windows OS portable edition of Atom should operate without Portable Apps (as it is optional). I have several other "portable" Apps installed and working on an external hard-drive without using Portable Apps (I do use Portable Apps on a separate thumbdrive).

I download a Zip file from Github, then opened the Zipfile and copied the contents of atom-portable-master.zip, atom-portable-master folder (AtomPortable) to G:\_Editors\AtomPortable. That folder contains the file AtomPortable.exe.

When I double-click on AtomPortable.exe, I get a dialog stating:

Atom Portable cannot be started. You may wish to re-install to fix this issue. (ERROR: App\Atom\atom.exe could not be found)

I looked in the G:\_Editors\AtomPortable\App folder, and there is not an Atom folder. Atom.exe does not exist in any of the folders under G:\_Editors\AtomPortable.

Proxy Settings

Hi,

for implementing my prox-configuration i need to change the .apmrc
Unfortunately it is always overritten, when i change the file in /Data/atom/.apm.

A .apmrc in Users-Folder of Windows does not exists for portable version. Where can i change my settings?

Greetings
Malte

In Windows XP 32 bits

Hello. I installed the youngest version that I found with you (Atom Portable v1.0.7). It does not start, but no error message appears.

Portable install fails to download packages.

I installed portable atom on my laptop at work as I'm looking for an alternative to pyCharm portable.

I get this error when I try to download packages.

"Installing “[email protected]” failed.Hide output…
Unable to download https://www.atom.io/api/packages/python-tools/versions/0.6.9/tarball: unable to get local issuer certificate"

The manual makes some recommendations

"
_Proxy and Firewall Settings

Behind a Firewall?
If you are behind a firewall and seeing SSL errors when installing packages you can disable strict SSL by running:
C:> apm config set strict-ssl false

Using a Proxy?
If you are using a HTTP(S) proxy you can configure apm to use it by running:
C:> apm config set https-proxy YOUR_PROXY_ADDRESS

You can run apm config get https-proxy to verify it has been set correctly._
"

I can set strict-ssl to false one I worked out where apm was installed (the example above doesn't work for a portable installation)

That still gave the error.

I have no idea how to find the proxy setting BUT I don't think I should have to. This is a paortable installation. It should work irrespective of where I install it. Pycharm and other editors manage to download packages without this problem (they just have other issues).

Any chance of updating the install so that configuration of SSL certificates and HTTS proxies are not required.

Is the project open?

The package has been updated over a year ago. Is the project still being maintained?

Reset panes to default view | Backup settings & packages ?

Not really an issue. Would kindly love to know how I could reset the panes view to their default state when Atom Portable runs the first time. Messed around with the View -> Panes -> Split Up options and now I cannot get them to "merge" again.

Looked here https://discuss.atom.io/t/restore-to-default-settings-setting/3664 but obviously could not find an ".atom" folder since this is the portable version.

In the end I deleted the entire Atom Portable folder and started fresh, though that led me to having to install all packages again as well.

If you have a clue how to just reset the panes view to Atom's default setting I am all ears.

Also, I guess if I would like to make a backup of all packages and settings like I prefer them I would just have to make a copy of the Atom Portable folder, correct?

Or is there another way, perhaps just backing up one settings file?

Thank you for your help.

Packages installed via apm can not be used

I use atom portable (windows) in a corporate network and have some ssl issues that I can not install packages in atom. That's not the case.

I've tried to install packages from command line via apm. It works, "apm ls" command shows the package is installed but in atom I can not see the package. Installation has done into "c:\Users*Home* " path, apm sees them but I think atom portable looks for packages under its "d:\Papps******" folder so I can not use packages that I've installed via apm.

I've moved packages manually to under d:\Papps****\AtomPortable\Data\atom\packages and it seems to be working.

I think configuration should be portable and never use the folder under c:\Users****, using which fonder is not exactly portable.

BETA branch

Suggestion: Include a beta branch that will include the latest atom beta package
Many of us are living on the edge just by using Atom (lots of issues with git gpg signing, for example), so, why not take it a step further? ;)

Incorrect license listed in readme

In the readme, it states:

Portable application code released under the MIT license.

The PortableApps.com Launcher is licensed under the GPL and can not be re-licensed under MIT.

There is something wrong copying the folder

thanks for your job. When I copy the folder to another position on Windows7,it shows up a window named target path too long,I think it may be caused by node_module folder, there are a lot of folder in it.I try to zip it,but another similar problem occur. How can I solve this?

Update To 1.9.9

The latest atom release is 1.9.9. Any chance you would update the portable?

Cannot get download working

Unfortunately I cannot get this download working - it appears clicking the links from the gh-pages site downloads the zip/tar balls, but running the exe that is supplied does not work. The atom exe is not included.

If I am missing a step it would be nice to have the instructions on the page.

Thanks

Startup Error

Hi there,

I am having trouble running the recently updated Atom Portable 1.6.x (I have tried to run it on Windows 7 x64 and on Windows 10 x64).

When I attempt to launch it, I get a JavaScript error message related to the atom.asar file (screenshot below).
