Gosu Programming Language Plugin for SonarQube.

Why ANTLR4?

The Sonarqube Gosu Plugin uses ANTLR (Another Tool For Language Recognition) to execute static analysis of Gosu code. We decided to write our own grammar in ANTLR4 due the official Gosu grammar been written in an old and non-supported version of ANTLR. In the long run, it was easier to write our own simple grammar rather than working with an undocumented, unmodifiable and not fully working parser.

Installation

Sonarqube Marketplace

Available in the marketplace since v1.2.1.

Sonarqube On-premise

Download the latest JAR file and put it into Sonarqube's plugin directory (./extensions/plugins). After restarting the server, a new Quality Profile for Gosu with all the plugin rules should be available on Quality Profiles.

Alternatively, you can clone the project and build the JAR file from the sources. E.g.:

$ ./gradlew shadowJar

The installation procedure is the same as mentioned previously.

InternalImportsCheck fails on Gosu static imports

Context

When scanning Gosu files that contain static imports, the Gosu plugin fails with the following error:
internal-imports-check-failure

How to reproduce it?

  1. Create a Gosu file that contains static imports;
    E.g:
package checks.InternalImportsCheck

uses de.friday.SomeClass

uses SomeClass#SomeProperty

class MyClass {
  function doNothing() {
  }
}
  1. Execute the Sonar scanning on the project containing the file;

SystemClockUnawareDateRule - LocalDateTime.now() is not checked

Describe the bug

  • LocalDateTime.now() is not checked.
  • The description of the Rule should contain more details
  • please check also:
    • java.time.LocalTime
    • java.time.Clock
    • java.time.Instant
    • java.util.Calendar
    • java.util.GregorianCalendar
    • java.sql.Date

To Reproduce

Expected behavior

UnnecessaryImportRule - skip imports for auto-generated entitties

Describe the bug
Some entities are auto-generated by APD, PD (product designers) like: entity.windowed.
They are mandatory and can cause compilation problems.

To Reproduce
Sample file attached: SampleClassWithEntity.gs

Expected behaviour
entity.windowed should be skipped.

Analysis fail when Gosu file uses wildcard imports

Describe the bug
When using wildcard imports (uses de.friday.utils.*) the Sonar analysis fail with the following error:
scan-failed-no-package-found

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Create a Gosu file that uses wildcard imports:
package my.package

uses my.clases.*

class SomeClass {
}
  1. Run Sonar analysis
  2. See the error

Expected behavior
The Sonar scan should finish successfully.

UnnecessaryImportRule - check also the usage in static imports

Describe the bug
When the imported class is used as the element of the static import, there is the issue.
It is false.

To Reproduce
Sample file attached: SampleAttributeEnhancement.gsx

Expected behavior
When the class is also used in the static imports, there should be no issue.

Wildcard in uses clause causes plugin to crash

Describe the bug
When a wildcard is used in a uses clause to import multiple classes from a package, the plugin crashes and aborts the scan.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Create a Gosu class file and import all classes in a package with:
    uses shared.*
  2. Run the Sonar scan
  3. See the error
    Could not determine the class name of the uses statement: shared

Expected behavior
As this is bad practice, the plugin should report it as such.

Software Versions

  • SonarQube Version: 10.5
  • Plugin Version: 1.2.2 #128

Additional Context

  1. Scan is called from a Gradle v7.3.3 build
  2. Using OpenJDK 17.0.2
  3. SonarQube server is 10.5 which requires the above versions of Gradle and Java

bug-fix: UnnecessaryImportCheck fails on Gosu file with static import

Context

When scanning Gosu files that contain static imports, the Gosu plugin fails with the following error:
npe-unnecessary-import-check

How to reproduce it?

  1. Create a Gosu file that contains static imports;
    E.g:

Hello! I'm attempting to scan a project repository that includes Gosu code. Up to this point, I've placed the sonar-communitygosu-plugin-1.2.1.jar file into the plugin directory of Sonarqube (./extensions/plugins). After restarting Sonarqube, a new Quality Profile for Gosu, including all the plugin rules, became available in Quality Profiles. However, when I scan my project, I encounter the "No package found" error. I've attached the console logs for reference. Return inside a code block causes the plugin to crash

Describe the bug
A conditional return inside a code block (to exit out of the block) causes the plugin to crash and abort the scan.
I expect it is trying to match the return in the code block to the return of the method, which declares a return type.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Create a Gosu class with a method that declares a return type.

  2. Inside that method, execute a code block that tests some condition and does a return to skip to the next item in the .each() list.

  3. In the method, return nothing

Expected behavior
The scanner should see the return as an exit out of the .each() loop, not a return out of the function.
It would also be nice if the plugin reported the file it was working on when it aborts for whatever reason. :-)

  1. Scan is called from a Gradle v7.3.3 build
  2. Using OpenJDK 17.0.2
