freeusbi's Introduction

freeUSBi

BOARD STATUS: READY TO BE BUILT

MAIN COORDINATOR: thebadseeds

The freeUSBi is a low-budget real-time programming device for the freeDSP and other DSP boards from Analog Devices. It is based on a CY7C68013A MINI BOARD combined with an adapter PCB (printed circuit board) that adds the possibility of realtime programming. It has the same features as the Analog Devices USB interface (EVAL-ADUSB2EBZ), such as changing parameters while already using the freeDSP or easy changes of the schematic in SigmaStudio. You also can write your program to the EEPROM.

Please refer to the documentation for more information.

freeusbi's Issues

Driver installation on Windows 8 and 7 does not work

On both operating systems, this error message appears: The hash value for the file is not in the specified catalog file.

My approach:

  1. Board connected to computer
  2. Copy file ADI_USBi.spt into the driver folder of the appropriate system
  3. Start the driver update with the Device Manager
  4. No driver is found with path to the driver folder
  5. Even with direct specification of the cyusb3.inf two drivers / device types appear and no one works..

Mounting holes don't fit main board

This issue is still present in the current release-0.2

The mounting holes of the freeUSBi PCB are not aligned to the main cypress board that its connected to.

This should be fixed in a future revision.

Improve compability with china USBi-boards

  • there're 2 different versions of the china mainboard used with freeUSBi
** as mentioned in the freeUSBi getting started guide
  • to improve compability, one VCC and GND pin of the left pinheader should be disconnected from the pinheader
** refer to freeUSBi getting started guide for the actual pin positions
  • it's not necessary that these pins are connected on the pinheader, there're several other VCC / GND - connections to supply the freeUSBi board
  • Then the freeUSBi is fully compatible with both versions of china boards

Win 7 x64 drivers won't install

Following the instructions in the Google docs EXACTLY does not appear to work for W7x64 . Windows device manager just says "could not find driver software for your device"
