Use redux instead of mobx

MobX is nice, but it makes us write very ugly code with global state in multiple files.
Redux is more 'React-y' and makes you write nice, pre-defined actions for updating an unmutable global state

Only use colors from variables

We should only use colors and opacities defined by variables, so everything looks and feels unified.
Right now, we have many different shades of grey.

We should use the 'nested route' approach for organizing the files app. The structure might look like the following:

Release Notes for v6.0.1

This is a minor release with support for react-hot-loader and a few small bug fixes for edge cases.

While you're here, please stop by #1177 to see our roadmap for the next versions of React Redux. We are aware that performance is not so hot in 6.0. Short version: We put too much traffic on React's context API, which isn't really designed for high levels of reads and writes. We're looking to reduce that load and get performance back on track in a minor release, so there won't be backwards compatibility concerns. We have a new extensive benchmark suite to keep us on track and ensure we're not regressing on speed in the future.

And yes, we know about Hooks. Check out #1179.

Consider using CSS in JS

CSS in JS would bring the following benefits:

  • Full power of JS for calculations and templating in CSS
  • No global scope (except when needed)
  • Modularization: Currently we have quite some places where we assume a child component to have some classes - This is a bad thing and cannot exist with CSS in JS
  • Cleaner file structure. Each .tsx file holds the complete component - Markup, JS and CSS

But also, there would be some drawbacks to CSS in JS:

  • Performance - This is not too big of a deal, since CSS in JS is not slow, only slower
  • Porting SCSS to JS - Mostly copy and paste
