The loading time of the popup is not extremely high but if you compare it to Chrome's default bookmark manger it's just slow.

Since speed or better say responsiveness is very important for users. Especially for a tool like PMB which you use many many times whith the goal to find and open the bookmark-link quickly. Don't get me wrong, when it's open it's very responsive and also the search runs great. But when clicking on PBM or openning it with a shortcut it takes it's time to respond. Would be great if this could be improved! 👍

need password to show the folder

I'm on Linux and I use Google Docs a lot. This extension overrides my use of Control-B to make text bold. I don't see a checkbox or setting in the options to disable this hotkey or map it to something else. Would you consider adding either a way to disable the hotkey or a way to configure it?

The Escape key appears to work differently for the following scenarios:

1. Open popup, hit Escape: the popup window closes
2. Open popup, type one or more characters, hit Escape: the search box is cleared
3. Open popup, type one or more characters, hit Escape two times: the search box is cleared on the first Escape, nothing happens on the second Escape

To close the popup window in the last scenario I have to either hit the extension's keyboard shortcut or mouse click outside the window.

Is it possible to close the popup window on the second Escape for the last scenario?

Unfortunately "Search" shows results also from Trash folder.
It would be great either to remove this folder from "Search" scope or to have possibility to choose folders to search in (the same way as already implemeneted in function "Hide root folder".

when open the menu, chrome start to flash black across the screen. happens both when open general menu and sub-folder menu. when a menu is opened, it no more flashes.

Only a tiny box opens. See screenshot below. I'm using MacOS 10.12.3 on a 15.4-inch (2880 x 1800) display and Chrome version 57.0.2987.110 (64-bit).

The extension is so much faster with the launch of v5.2 -- really wonderful! There is now only one tweak I'd love to see: search results updating after each keystroke rather than after typing is paused.

• Current behavior: search results do not update until about .5 seconds after a keystroke. This small lag slows down workflows (and I use the extension dozens of times each day!)
• Desired behavior: update search results instantly on keystroke. This is how the Chrome address bar works, as well as similar extension Bookmark Express.

I've been using Popup My Bookmarks for several days on a new computer. Today when I started up I got this message:

Try disabling your extensions.

I disabled all my extensions, rebooted, and tried everything I could think of. The PmB icon is still there but the dropdown menu is missing the "Bookmarks" option which I see on my old PC. It still shows "Imported bookmarks" and "Other Bookmarks". Any ideas?

1. Can't lengthen size of the pop-up window
2. Options>UI & Control tabs both jitter on the screen so badly that they are unusable. (The General & Contributor tabs are both stable).

Great effort Guys, I needed a match for Firefox bookmarks and this is the closest so far.

Can you add folders names in search results. And his (folders) paths in hints.
And search result not saved after lose and open extension panel.

how is this feature supposed to work? I changed the url in the code to "http://separatethis.com/solid.html", but still get the old "-------" version? I also can't find a setting/drop-down list anywhere, to change the separator style?

The way I manage my bookmarks is that they are all in a special folder named ">" so I'd like to be able to specify this folder as default folder when I click on the toolbar icon.

Set middle click to open bookmark in background.

When middle-click the folder, not all bookmarks in the folder are opened.

But right-click the folder and select Open All Bookmarks does not have this problem.

ps: I have 33 bookmarks in my folder

Although Edge allows installing extensions from Chrome Store, it is more convenient to include it in Microsoft Store.

There is an error with this repository's Renovate configuration that needs to be fixed. As a precaution, Renovate will stop PRs until it is resolved.

It is possible to navigate through the bookmarks with the arrow keys, which I really like, but it's somehow not possible to open the context menu.

Of course with the rightclick of the mouse it open but normally it sohuld also open when clicking the options key on the keyboard. I think this doesn't work because the cursor somehow stays in the search box. Try it out!
When I click the options key to open the context menu the cursor shows up in the search box, so perhaps that's a bug. If this usage was never considered it would be nice to intergrate it :)

It would be nice to show an indicator (e.g. a fat dot) next to a bookmark, to show that the window is open on that bookmark's URL.

This is happening across multiple browsers on Chrome (Version 73.0.3683.114) and Windows. Seems to have been introduced with v6.0.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Trigger the PMB extension (via keyboard shortcut or mouse)
2. Observe that the typing cursor is not active in the search box
3. Attempt to enter one character. Observe that the character is not entered in the search box, and that instead the cursor suddenly appears in the search box.
4. Attempt to enter one character. Observe that the character appears in the search box as expected.

So effectively the first character entered is always lost. Thanks as always for PMB -- as mentioned before it's a hugely useful extension for me.

Hi,

it would be nice to have a "MAX_HEIGHT" UI setting for chromium based browsers, since some of them don't have the 596 limit. As example Vivaldi has no limits so we can finally get a large popup similar to what Firefox has. I juts tested the 5.0 version and works fine in Vivaldi 1.5 beta, with a 1000 height setting for me.

PS: Btw would it be possible to change the popup location to the left side of the screen similar to a sidebar and use the firefox folder popup logic, expanding right multiple times? This might be possible in vivaldi, since its not as restrictive as chrome.

In the search shows bookmarks located in the bookmarks bar and other bookmarks. If not difficult, add the ability to search in only one of two places. Thanks.

Hi, this is a very useful extension, but I'm wondering if there is any way to change the shortcut for opening the menu. Ctrl+B is often used to make text bold in rich text editors and I use that often.

PageUp, PageDown should work in the popup. Move the cursor up or down one or most of one total items visible.

Home,End should work in the popup. Move cursor to top, move cursor to bottom.

Item search should work as it does in other apps. e.g., press M and first item starting with M is selected if there is one, next M advances. Sequence of letters, e.g., MAP should work, probably reset after a few seconds, to alllow new search.

My job requires the use of a text editor to do a lot of formatting, especially things like bold/italics/underline. The new Ctrl+B option to open PmB means I can no longer use bold formatting via the keyboard shortcut, which is a huge pain. Is it possible to make this shortcut customizable? I won't be able to use the extension otherwise.

In the search field it only gives bookmark results. I have a really huge organized bookmark collection, it would be awesome to have the ability to search for folders and open them.

And automatically focuses the cursor on the search bar.

Is there any shortkey to open this plugin in Chrome?

one thing none of the bookmark extensions has is a function to update/overwrite an existing bookmark folder. I do it manually right now, but a function for that would be great!

Scenario is: You have folder for a project and you add new, remove old and also reorder bookmarks. So every time you have to create a new bookmarks folder with the same name, move it to the right position and delete the old one.

It would be so much better to make a right click on the existing folder and click "Update" - that's it!

PmB closed when i make a middle click for backgroundtab - Settings are right

Setup details --

• Operating system: Chrome OS
• Chrome version: 121.0.6167.188 (official)
• Popup My Bookmarks version: 8.0.0

Steps to recreate --

• Save bookmark pointing to a local file (example: file:///home/chronos/u-623ffb263ac82eac6caf/MyFiles/test.txt)
• Attempt to open local file via bookmark using PMB

Observations --

• Expected behavior: PMB opens the local file
• Observed behavior: selecting the bookmark in the menu has no effect -- PMB remains open with the bookmark highlighted, with nothing changing

Notes --

• It is possible to open file from a file management app
• PMB successfully opened Chrome OS local files via bookmarks until sometime in last six months. Perhaps a change in Chrome OS permissions?

Other notes --

• PMB has been an invaluable tool in my daily flow since 2018. Thank you so much for building and maintaining such a useful tool!

I like the way win10 show its installed program in full screen, so would you change or set available options like so?

At present, the way Popup show bookmarks is stacked, if i have a very long list it's not convinent to find and lock the destination link as i have to scorll down the mouse

This plugin used to have dark mode, is not there anymore.

The current bookmark folder icon is folder.svg which is in src/popup/images/ .
The color of this icon is so bright and it's a bit harsh.

So can you add an option in the UserInterface tab: Customize bookmark folder icon.
This enables users to upload their own .ico or .svg image as a folder icon.

It would be great to be able to optionally pick a more neutral icon for the extension as an alternative to the standard one.

As the standard one is rather colorful, it falls out of line compared to many other more minimal icons, especially when in plain sight all the time:

I suggest to just use a very simple star icon in svg format (e.g. from font awesome: http://fontawesome.io/icon/star/) and provide a color picker in the extension options, similar to how it's available in the following extension:

noticed i could not install my favorite bookmark manager any longer, what happened?

The 'Control' section in PmB options has the ability to trigger alternate actions by doing left click + CTRL or Shift.

But when using the keyboard only and doing CTRL + Enter or Shift + Enter, the regular ("Left Click to open bookmarks in") action happens.

Is it possible to have CTRL / Shift + Enter trigger the same things as CTRL / Shift + left click?

I'd love to see a way to copy a bookmark URL via keyboard only. Two possible implementations I'm thinking of:

• Highlighting a bookmark and hitting Cmnd / Control + C copies the bookmark URL and closes the popup window
• Adding a 'Copy URL' option in the pull-down menus of the 'Control' section of the Popup my Bookmarks options

Note: right-clicking on a bookmark brings up a context menu with a 'Copy' option. Selecting this option doesn't appear to do anything, and the context menu does not appear to be accessible via the keyboard.

Hello :). Thank you for the wonderful work you've done with this extension! It really eases my life when it comes to adding bookmarks in a particular folder, since the way you're displaying them is way better than the default.

I would like to also use your extension for adding bookmarks! :). Currently, as you know, the Hotkey in Chrome is CTRL + D and then ENTER to add the bookmark somewhere. I have configured your extension to show up at CTRL + ALT + D. However, the default action in your extension for ENTER is to open a bookmark.

So then how about making CTRL + ENTER a shortcut for ADDING the current page? It is slightly cumbersome that every time I need to add a bookmark I have to RIGHT CLICK, then select a TINY option (Add Current Page) from a tiny menu :)

This is slightly related to a different reported issue (adding hotkeys inside the extension).

Hello!

Since upgrading to v5.3 and 5.3.1 I see a new strange behavior that is hard to reproduce: I select one bookmark but a different one opens up. This is not easily reproduced, if it happens once it will continue to happen in the same tab for a while but opening a new tab usually resolves the issue. This happens once every 20-30 searches.

One example that I just tried:

• Opened PMB with keyboard shortcut, searched for 'gamma'
• The bookmark with title 'gamma bug' shows up in PMB. It is the only bookmark that appears.
• I select the bookmark by hitting Enter
• An unrelated bookmark with title 'dcm login log in (ANALYTICS #1)' with this opens instead

Trying the same search in the same tab for the next few minutes has the same behavior. Executing the search in a new tab resolves this issue.

Although Options is in the extension's context menu, it does not open reliably. Usually, it just opens the Chrome Manage Extension page. When the Options popup does open, it operates sluggishly, and dropdown menus either don't open at all or open as an unselectable black box.

This issue was first reported in the Support section of the extension's Chrome Store page on May 26, 2019.
