open-sans's Issues

NPM Package is not updated

The npm published package is 1.4.0 which does not have the WOFF2 in the src of the font-face.

Please update the npm published package with the latest 1.4.2.

open-sans.css.map 404

I'm getting this all the time on the new 1.4.2 release. The map file doesn't seem to be included.
This line seems to be the culprit on the CSS file:
/*# sourceMappingURL=open-sans.css.map */

Bold 700 display of `a` and `e` in Chrome

In the font version from http://fontfacekit.github.com/open-sans the display of a and e in Chrome looks awkward in 12px size (see screenshot attached). The version from http://www.google.com/fonts/specimen/Open+Sans looks fine in this size. I tried the setup locally with *.woff files from this repo and font files from google font api. On this way I could reproduce the bad display of a and e locally as well. As soon as the font changed to the version from google font api it looks good.

letter g

would be good to update the letter g

WOFF2 support

Can you release package with fixed _mixins.scss? Current version 1.4.0 missed it.

Also $OpenSansVersion should be 1.4.0 by default?

Please, fix bower.json

Your bower.json now contains only

"main": "./open-sans.css",

Though the main part of your package is fonts. Please add such line to your package

"main": [ "./open-sans.css", "./fonts/**/*" ]

It will also allow to use your package with main-bower-files library.

Thanks.

Number 7

If the font is small number 7 does not appear with the other numbers correctly

Release that contains the package.json

As per now the only way to get this repository installed by NPM is to actually point to the gh-pages branch.

It would be very nice to have a 1.1.1 release or an updated 1.1.0

[enhancement] Add missing bower.json.

Hey, maintainer(s) of FontFaceKit/open-sans!

We at VersionEye are working hard to keep up the quality of the bower's registry.

We just finished our initial analysis of the quality of the Bower.io registry:

7530 - registered packages, 224 of them doesnt exists anymore;

We analysed 7306 existing packages and 1070 of them don't have bower.json on the master branch ( that's where a Bower client pulls a data ).

Sadly, your library FontFaceKit/open-sans is one of them.

Can you spare 15 minutes to help us to make Bower better?

Just add a new file bower.json and change attributes.

{
  "name": "FontFaceKit/open-sans",
  "version": "1.0.0",
  "main": "path/to/main.css",
  "description": "please add it",
  "license": "Eclipse",
  "ignore": [
    ".jshintrc",
    "**/*.txt"
  ],
  "dependencies": {
    "<dependency_name>": "<semantic_version>",
    "<dependency_name>": "<Local_folder>",
    "<dependency_name>": "<package>"
  },
  "devDependencies": {
    "<test-framework-name>": "<version>"
  }
}

Read more about bower.json on the official spefication and nodejs semver library has great examples of proper versioning.

NB! Please validate your bower.json with jsonlint before commiting your updates.

Thank you!

woff2 version

I am currently looking into providing a local version of open sans to the WordPress admin.
It needs to provide a version as close to the Google Fonts API version as possible.

Would it be a good idea to add a woff2 version?
The conversion should be easy enough, right?

OpenSans-Semibold.svg filesize

There seems to be a problem with the "OpenSans-Semibold.svg" filesize as it's weights ~1.2MB, compared to the ~250KB for Light, Bold, etc ...

Would it be possible to include open sans that has the same line height for all weights?

I have compared the letters in different font-size and font-weight and currently the line height is inconsistent. It's like the semi-bold is sometimes too low or too high.
Comparing to Open Sans from google fonts they do not have this problem at all (except some very minor issues with italic variants)

Another thing is with letters like "ó".
In Open Sans from this repository in some low font sizes the diacritic actute (thing above the o) is too close, but in semi-bold it's actually alright, so I'd assume line height of the other font weights is not okey.
In google fonts open sans there is no such problem...

Bower with invalid meta

bower open-sans-fontface#^1.4.2
invalid-meta The "main" field cannot contain globs (example: "*.js")
