Meetup Bot

Feature Roadmap

Query Meetup API from Python.
Access above functionality using a Slack chatbot.
Make interactions more natural by integrating Dialogflow.

Setup

Set the environmental variable MEETUP_API_KEY to your key (requires being logged in):

export MEETUP_API_KEY=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Set the environmental variable SLACK_BOT_TOKEN to your Bot User OAuth Access Token from Slack API:

export SLACK_BOT_TOKEN=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Set the environmental variable DIALOGFLOW_CLIENT_TOKEN to your Client Access Token from Dialogflow API:

export DIALOGFLOW_CLIENT_TOKEN=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Install all dependencies:

pip install -r requirements.txt

Supported commands

find <text> group in <country>
- Find meetup groups in an (optional) country
find <text> meetups in <country>
- Find meetup events in an (optional) country

Avoid Dialogflow timeout

As mentioned here, Dialogflow times out after 5 seconds. Since some requests to the Meetup API take considerably longer, we need to find a way to get results within the 5 seconds time limit.
