Downgrade skype

Hello, is it possible to downgrade flathub's skype to 5.5, please ?
I did update it on today, and Skype 8.9 after successfull sign-in says Startup_Load_Error.
Sorry for bothering

error: Wrong size for extra data

While trying to update/reinstall skype I keep getting this error:
error: Wrong size for extra data https://repo.skype.com/deb/pool/main/s/skypeforlinux/skypeforlinux_8.11.76.8_amd64.deb

many issues in the newest kde plasma version.

1.First why is root the user of the skype not the user?
2. you have to login every time you start the app
3.when the app minimizes to the info bar it is no longer possible to re- open or close it or normal to use, you have to close via ksysgard or pid
only restart the hole system and newstart a instance is working one time.

Follow system theme option doesn’t work

Skype includes an option to use system settings for picking the light/dark variant of the theme. However, this option doesn’t work; it always sets the theme to light, despite the system theme being dark.

Skype process remains in background after closing the app

Hi,

I noticed that if I run Skype and then quit the app (File -> Quit) the skype process remains in the background:

 7410 pts/2 S 0:00 bwrap --args 37 skype
 7421 pts/2 S 0:00 /app/extra/share/skypeforlinux/chrome-sandbox /app/extra/share/skypeforlinux/skypeforlinux --type=zygote ...

That happens each time I run Skype, i.e. if I run it 3 times then I end up with three separate stale processes.

I have Skype 8.68.0.100, commit eedbc84efb8a57ce326c1035e3b1be9ae33e2a038b1fa72134aada271814e470 and Flatpak 1.2.5.

Gnome launcher not launching Skype

Dear Mantainers,
After latest update to v. 8.59.0.77, the launcher does nothing and Skype doesn't start. On the contrary, flatpak run com.skype.Client by terminal works fine.

I'm sorry, but I'm not so familiar with Flatpaks and therefore I don't know how to debug this issue.

My System:
Debian 10 Buster 64bit
Gnome 3.30.2

Best regards,
Domenico

Incoming messages doesn't appear

I'm running Silverblue 32, installed the Skype flatpak, but new incoming don't show up. If I quit and start it again, the messages comes.

Cannot screen share on Wayland

Skype currently cannot screen share on Wayland in the Deb or in the Flatpak.

This is as Skype does not show the share screen button on Wayland, despite Electron supporting Wayland screen sharing.

Skype not showing the screen share button on Wayland is entirely arbitrary, given one can succesfully screen share from the Skype web app in Chromium (ignoring minor Chromium WebRTC PipeWire bugs).

So if Skype were to remove this restriction, and ship with a semi recent version of Electron, screen sharing would likely work on wayland. Working Electron screen sharing apps include Jitsi Meet and Slack (note we can use the runtime's pipewire 0.3 starting from electron 13).

When Skype enables the share screen button on Wayland a change to the manifest will be needed. We should build in PipeWire support similar to what was done for Slack Flatpak.

The combination of Skype making the button visible, the Flatpak building with PipeWire, and passing --enable-features=WebRTCPipeWireCapturer should make screen sharing work for Skype on Wayland. Note the need to pass the command line option should be resolved in Chromium eventually.

Doesn't work with external webcam

When running Skype 8.16.76.1 from flatpak I am unable to use an external webcam.

Using skypeforlinux-8.16.0.4-1.x86_64 installed from rpm everything work.

I have also tried running with device=all override but that made no difference.

flatpak run --device=all com.skype.Client

No connection since 2020-01-24

Hello!

My Skype lost the connection on last friday, like often without actual signaling about it and kept my status on available. After I recognized that I don't receive any messages I restarted it, now it keeps saying I have no internet connection.

I reinstalled the application and also removed all files from my home directory, which remained. Nothing helped. So I switched the regular skype-preview-package from Archlinux, it works fine.

This seems to have the logical bug as the flatpak for microsoft teams had flathub/com.microsoft.Teams#49 (comment)
So I the solution is probably to

  1. Set the dynamic linker path correcty (or use rpath) like this flathub/com.microsoft.Teams@f7477f9
  2. Use bsdtar like this https://github.com/flathub/com.microsoft.Teams/pull/59/files

Gnome-keyring is needed and not provided or hinted at. Skype logs out every time application closes.

If installation lacks gnome-keyring, (which can happen, for example, in Arch with KDE), then Skype seems to work as intended, except that every time application restarts, it asks for credentials anew. Installation of gnome-keyring via system package manager (and creating default keyring when prompted) seems to solve the problem.
It is completely unobvious for average user. To make things worse, Microsoft support claims that logging out is an intended behavior to force users to update to newer versions. It makes user think that problem is in the flatpak package.
Please, either provide gnome-keyring in the flatpak package or, if impossible, at least add some script to warn user if gnome-keyring is missing. Not everyone uses Gnome.

Can't download files

When running Skype with flatpak run com.skype.Client I'm unable to download files from Skype, i.e. when I click on a file that has been sent to me it will stay stuck in "Downloading..." (the file is never written to disk because flatpak treats the directory as read only).

If I start flatpak with flatpak run --filesystem=home:rw com.skype.Client it works and the file is saved to /home/diego but I'd prefer if the file is saved to ~/Downloads and I don't have to give Skype full read/write permissions.

Thanks.

Skype doesn't export GlobalMenu

Skype doesn't export GlobalMenu, but all dbus-appmenu packages installed.

Please help. There is should be some console command for whitelist electron/microsoft dbus-menu exporter.

Blank Screen

Skype doesn't load anything, it's just a blank screen on openSuse Leap 42.3.

Skype doesn't pick up camera and audio by default

I have no idea why this happens the way it happens but I can reproduce it on my notebook every time and would love to help debugging.

With the current Skype version, when I start the client using flatpak from the Gnome desktop or flatpak run com.skype.Client, it doesn't neither pick up my camera nor my microphone. Giving me a quite useless setup.

When I was about to debug it, I opened a bash using flatpak run --command=/bin/bash com.skype.Client and started skype using this shell within the flatpak using skype as command. Suddenly it picks up all devices, camera works and the microphone as well. 😅

I'm very interested in ideas how to debug this and fix it in a long term perspective.

PS: I had another notebook where things worked flawless for months 🤡

skype run failed

$ flatpak run com.skype.Client
Can't find source path /tmp/.X11-unix/X1: No such file or directory

System tray icon disapeared

The system tray icon disappeared for Skype version > 8.56
skypeforlinux continue to run in the background but impossible to show the app main window.

Tested on:
Ubuntu 18.04
Gnome 3.28.2

Explain access to bluez and NetworkManager

Skype wants to talk to NetworkManager and bluez. This could allow it to change the network configuration, request Wi-Fi scans, and scan for local Bluetooth devices, which it really shouldn't need to do:

        "--system-talk-name=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager",
        "--system-talk-name=org.bluez",

Skype 8.30.0.50 crashes on startup

I have to run it manualy like this in order to see the error message:

$ flatpak run --command=bash com.skype.Client
$ SKYPE_LOGS=$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/logs
$ mkdir -p $SKYPE_LOGS
$ env TMPDIR=$XDG_CACHE_HOME /app/extra/share/skypeforlinux/skypeforlinux --executed-from="$(pwd)" --pid=$$

        Using the fallback 'C' locale.
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

The versions I have:

com.skype.Client/x86_64/stable flathub cb2696afdf7e
org.freedesktop.Platform/x86_64/1.6 flathub 5c009a06a3f7

Improve appdata

Ideally the appdata would have OARS metadata, release tags, screenshots and a more comprehensive description.

Unable to Start Skype Due To NSS Dependency Failure

Hi, I performed a flatpak update today and Skype now is unable to start

[4:0501/171049.301389:FATAL:nss_util.cc(632)] NSS_VersionCheck("3.26") failed. NSS >= 3.26 is required. Please upgrade to the latest NSS, and if you still get this error, contact your distribution maintainer. Failed to generate minidump.

I am using Linux Mint 18.3 with latest updates installed.

Thanks
Graham

Have to sign in again each time I run Skype

Each time I start Skype, I get a notification:

You've been signed out of Skype. Launch the app to sign back in.

The text is very confusing (why does it tell me to launch the app immediately after I run the app!?).

That's Skype fault though. The real issue seems to be that something prevents the session from staying alive. My only override is the one below, since I obviously don't want Skype to have access to my entire filesystem:

$ cat ~/.local/share/flatpak/overrides/com.skype.Client
[Context]
filesystems=!home:ro;xdg-download:create

However, even giving it a persiste home does not help:

flatpak run --persist=home com.skype.Client

Should use newer freedesktop runtime

From what I understand freedesktop 1.6 runtime is not a really good runtime, compared to the later versions. So I think it is probably better to use the newer version.

Screensaver comes on when in full-screen

I'm on a wayland session of KDE Plasma, and the scree saver comes on when I'm using Skype in full-screen mode. Does the flatpak maybe need the org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver=talk permission as a Session Bus Policy?

Auto startup on boot is not performed

[kubuntu 18.04]

Despite the in-app setting to auto startup on boot, this does not occur. The app has to be launched manually.

May relate to issue #20 (gnome-keyring dependency) - as after launching manually I am prompted to unlock the gnome keyring.

Unable to get output from virtual webcam

I set up a virtual video camera using v2l2loopback and OBS studio, for additional preprocessing

options v4l2loopback devices=1 exclusive_caps=1 video_nr=8 card_label="Virtual Webcam"

In Skype, I can see the webcam listed, but I get just a blank screen in the SettingsAudio & Video preference page. I can access it just fine using other apps, e.g. Cheese.

I do not see any relevant output in $HOME/.var/app/com.skype.Client/config/logs, so I'm not sure how to debug this. Any help would be appreciated.

Skype attempts to start new instance instead of using existing instance running in the background.

Distribution: RHEL 8.1
Desktop Environment: GNOME 3.32.2
Flatpak Version: 1.0.9-1

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start Skype
  2. Close Skype through Alt+F4, CTRL+Q, etc.
  3. Start Skype again

After starting Skype again, you are asked to login instead of showing previously launched Skype instance. Checking running processes, there seems to be a duplicate instance. This seems similar to issue #11.

Workaround: foreach PID in $(ps u | grep skype | cut -d' ' -f2); do kill ${PID}; done

After killing all running Skype processes, you can start a properly functioning instance again. I tried killing just the PID reported by flatpak ps but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

I didn't have this problem one to three months ago.

SGI_video_sync error

Since I installed Fedora 32, I have the following error in the log:

kernel: SGI_video_sync[2382]: segfault at e6 ip 000056253bcd9b8d sp 00007f7c6eefb7c0 error 6 in skypeforlinux[562538945000+5425000]

Regards,

Latest version of Skype won't run

How To

Nothing really special. I updated Skype and since then it won't start. Running it from the terminal gives no logging. Preforming a Flatpak repair does nothing as well.

The Flatpak version of Skype does not seem to respect daylight-savings.

My current time-zone is Australia/Sydney (AEST/AEDT) which is currently +11 due to daylight savings. The Flatpak version of Skype outputs that it is using the following TZ: "Time: TZ: UTC+0-10:00, Local: 1577666508525".

The non-flatpak version of Skype using Fedora 31 does not seem to have this problem and displays the correct time - '"Time: TZ: UTC+0-11:00, Local: 1577666661634".
