block-ads's Issues

Detection of AdGuard on Android

Currently, using AdGuard on Android (the software, not the browser extension), isn't detected at all.
I suppose other forms of adblocking on the DNS level would be the same.

Why Adguard is in the same list with Adblock and Adblock Plus?

It is pretty clear that unlike these two we don't receive money from publishers.

https://adguard.com/en/whitelist.html

Introduction. This list has nothing to do with «Acceptable Ads» program from Adblock Plus. We do not get paid by site owners. Ads listed here are not «acceptable», but useful to many users. At the moment, the list contains mostly search contextual ads (which are often more helpful than the search results) and self promo ads (promotion of the website’s own content). If you do not want to see these ads, just do not turn on «Filter for useful ads».

It is just misleading that AG is listed there as we have nothing to do with that section description. Taboola case is really shocking, and from the article it seems that we are related to this.

The list of 'acceptable' advertisers is always growing.

You've seen the list. It is very short and it is not growing. There are only self promo ads and seach contextual ads. Both types are obviously useful to users which is why that filter exists.
Self promo example: deals promotions on amazon.com. In general we are trying to not block such things (due to our policy: https://blog.adguard.com/en/adguard-news/adguard-filter-policy.html). But if it is blocked by some "wide" filter rule, we unblock it in useful ads filter.

Add a note regarding potential false negatives and "killer" extensions

In addition to an ad blocker, I also use a "killer" extension when browsing the web; in other words, an extension that is designed to prevent websites from seeing that I have an ad blocker installed. This way, I can block ads on websites even if the site prevents me from being able to use my ad blocker.

It would be nice to add a section regarding potential reasons for false negatives (no ad blocker detected, but I do have one), which explains as one of the causes having a killer extension installed.

Recommend Ka-Block! for iOS

EDIT: I no longer recommend 1Blocker. See new comment below.

If you're looking to recommend something more powerful, I would recommend 1Blocker - https://1blocker.com. It actually has user-configurable blockers and uses the new Content Blocking APIs. Cons are, it's iOS9+ only (new APIs are available only on newer iOS versions, and 64-bit devices) and additional blocklists are a paid feature.

Create a "no ad blocker detected script"

Hi thank you so much for your work! I think the problem of advertising is totally underestimated and your initiative is important.
It would be great to have something that independent websites could use to assert their difference and attack sites that sell their users:
a script that would mirror the ad blocker detection of corporate sites only to show a message when the user is NOT using an ad blocker. Something like what you are already doing : "we detected that you are not using an ad blocker!"..

I'm don't know much about html but basically my question is : is it possible to change a bit your work to include it on a website so that nothing happens when adblocking is on and a message appears to suggest using an ad blocker when adblocking is off?
